Great staple item

Subs easily for cornstarch, but I also use them to make a non-grain flat bread. I use 2 parts arrowroot to one part coconut flour to 1 part coconut milk to make a flat bread that you cook in a pan with coconut oil. The batter is thick so you have to spread it on the pan with the back of the spoon for 4 inch ovals. If it doesn't spread well, add more coconut milk a bit at a time. Cook it over low heat and flip when golden. They are great for sandwiches, I heat mine before using and allow them to cool so they aren't so stiff. I just started mixing herbs or turmeric into the batter and they have more flavor. If I make a round shape they work well for hamburgers.

Prevent yeast infection/rash under breasts!

Substitute Bob's Red Mill Arrowroot Starch Flour for bath powders, cornstarch, and use this on any area where skin touches skin to aid in healing and/or preventing rashes. Yeast feeds on the sugar in cornstarch, so this is much better. It also thickens soups, gravy, etc., but I love it for the silky smooth powdery feel to keep my skin dry and healthy. Just a teaspoon sprinkled on your fingertips will be sufficient for most applications. Try it!

I've been using Bob's arrowroot starch for months as an thickening alternative for cornstarch and have always been happy with the results.
Recently, I learned that you can use it to make homemade deodorant! When I heard this, I was apprehensive about how effective something like that would be, but my girlfriend egged me into it with a friendly wager so we made a day of getting the ingredients and making some ourselves. I put tea tree oil and cedarwood oil in mine for a earthy, tingly scent and she put peppermint and lavender. They both came out great using the arrowroot starch and the scents blended nicely. Anyway, I definitely prefer this homemade deodorant over my natural, storebought one and needless to say, I lost the bet. But the starch thickened the deodorant mixture nicely and kept it solid in my empty deodorant stick, and it's great at making me feel less sweaty so it must be pretty absorbent. Apparently you can use it to make other cosmetic items so I'll definitely be experimenting more with that.
P.S. all the ingredients I used, I found on this site for way cheaper than what I purchased them for in the stores, especially this starch. I paid almost twice what the price here is so I'll be ordering it off here next time I need a refill.

Not as great for baking.

I was happy to find this gluten free flour for my baking. However, my cakes had a soggy and lumpy texture so I was not impressed with the result for that purpose.

On the other hand, I also used this to make pudding and a corn meal-like beverage and it turned out quite amazing, without altering the taste to either. Great starch replacement for thickening.

Gluten-Free Corn Muffins!

My daughter loves to make corn muffins and when my husband was diagnosed with Celiacs Disease, we had to switch to gluten-free. We love that it is a 1-1 replacement and that we don't need to add anything else! It is Kosher to boot- great for dinner parties!

One disadvantage is that the package is hard to reseal. I know that they say it is best stored in the refrigerator, but if I knock it over on the shelf, it is a mess! Maybe they should add a zip-top. I would buy again regardless.

So many uses!

Of course this product is great for cooking and baking but I actually use it to make some home made products.

I've made various skin care products with this and they are awesome, I love the way it feels light on my skin. I've also used it in a body butter which gave my body a smooth and non-greasy feel! I swear by this stuff!

Thickens well

Arrowroot thickens my gravy and soups well, but I prefer using corn starch. Arrowroot makes it lumpy.

I do use some in my blend of gluten free flour, I like that it seems to bind better than xantham gum, which upsets my stomach.

This is the best choice for thickening for anyone that is on a gluten free diet. It has a mild flavor so it doesn't change the taste of stuff, even pudding.

I also use this in cakes and some other baked goods.

Low calorie food

For a long time when I went gluten free I used potato flakes to thicken my soups. Then I discovered arrowroot, which has even less calories than potatoes and now it is the thing that thickens my soups.

My new kitchen friend

I used corn starch for a long time after going gluten free, but I have been trying to cut back on corn because of GMOs. I was so happy when someone told me that arrowroot flour was an excellent substitute for thickening and couldn't wait to try it.

Wheat flour and corn starch both alter the flavor of soups and gravy, wheat flour more so. This stuff has virtually no flavor, so it doesn't do that. Because of that I can use it to thicken pudding and more. I love it.

Does the job, torn bag

Used as a mild flour for basic baking, arrowroot does the job. It's also pretty good for making sauces thick and smooth, without changing their taste.

But my bag was torn on arrival, which is annoying and why I gave it three stars. Thrive sent me a second bag free, which wasn't torn, but I like my stuff delivered in the right condition.

Paleo done right

I've joined the cult of paleo, so I'm gluten free. I use arrowroot as a substitute for normal corn starch.

It does the same thing, but without all the chemicals. It's great when I'm kneading dough, and it has no real flavor or taste of its own, so there's nothing to interfere with the taste of pies and cookies.

Thickens really well

As another reviewer said, this isn't really a flour/starch that will add a ton of flavor to your dishes. I use coconut flour for that.

But if you're looking to get consistent results when you need to thicken your sauces and make your soup feel more soupy, then this does the job very well. And you're not using anything but arrowroot. No preservatives or additives. Pure organic.

One of the healthiest flours

Arrowroot is really more of a starch than a flour. That said, it can be combined with coconut flour if you're baking, and it turns out great.

It works exceptionally well in stews and sauces. It makes them thicker, but the consistency is smooth and clear. A great gluten free, low fat, all natural flour.

Gluten Free flour

This is a great flour if you've cut gluten from your diet.

It's ideal to mix with other natural flour for baking. But I use it a lot in sauces and soups to make the heavier. This flour dissolves easily and doesn't leave a gritty or sandy taste.

Thickens Perfectly

I really hate that "thin" feeling when it comes to my soups and gumbo. I love to have a thicker and creamy feeling to my food, and that's exactly why I've been adding the Arrowroot Starch to my food. It doesn't add much of a taste, but it definitely thickens things up and takes it from a water-like consistency to a more creamy feeling. It doesn't bulk up or form clumps either. As long as you continually stir it as you add the sifted powder, it goes in really, really well. I'll be keeping this one around for awhile.

Great for many things

I saw this flour every time I shopped the Bob's Red Mill section at my local grocer but never knew what I would do with it. Then I found a recipe for homemade deodorant that used it, so I bought some. It worked great for that purpose.

I then needed to find something to use the rest of it for. I found that it works great as a gluten-free thickener, and now I regularly use it in my gluten-free baking mix.

Good substitute for cornstarch

I'm new to the whole gluten-free way of eating. I'm not sure I can do this, but I'm trying. I had no idea there were so many different GF flours out there. Many recipes call for different kinds of GF flour to create a GF flour blend.
The dietitian at the doctor's office suggested I switch cornstarch for the arrowroot starch flour. We discussed what it can and can't do. I would not have known not to mix it with cream sauces or for fried chicken batter. Arrowroot starch flour needs lower heat. Good to know.
