Before starting Jovial, the founders were on a mission to find alternative ingredients that wouldn’t aggravate their daughter’s symptoms from gluten sensitivity. Einkorn—an ancient wheat—was the answer, and they turned their discovery into a business to help others, too. Today the brand offers a popular line of gluten-free flours, crackers, pastas, plus sauces, beans, and olive oil all packaged in glass containers to avoid harmful chemicals like BPA.
The History of Jovial
Husband and wife Carla and Rodolfo met in Bologna, Italy, in the 1980s while she was studying abroad. After they married and started a family, the couple discovered their young daughter had a severe allergy to modern wheat. Soon, they were on a quest to go beyond organic and create high-quality, gluten-free foods for their family. While researching other wheat varieties, they came across einkorn—a nutritious and flavorful ancient grain that helped their daughter thrive. By chance, they happened to meet a local einkorn farmer at an elementary school dinner and quickly formed a partnership.

It’s a mission directly inspired by one couple’s journey to support their daughter after discovering she had a severe gluten sensitivity.
