Kashi is one of the premier names in food made from wholesome, organic grains. The company designs their cereals and other products with nutrition, sustainability, and ethical sourcing in mind.
The History of Kashi
Kashi was founded in the 1980s by Phillip and Gayle Tauber with the goal of helping people eat better. The couple had previously worked on a range of health-focused businesses, from indoor plants to products for bodybuilders. Their new venture got off the ground when Phillip and Gayle began offering their first product, Kashi Pilaf, to Olympic Athletes for free during the 1984 Summer Games. Word soon spread about their delicious, whole grain-filled foods.
In 2000, Kashi was purchased by Kellogg and has since grown to be one of the largest conscious food companies in the world.
Kashi Company Mission
Kashi is dedicated to bringing a plants-first philosophy to everything that it does. The company constantly searches for innovative ways to put nutrition in its food and use whole ingredients.
As a part of their mission, Kashi has partnered with Quality Assurance International to support farmers who are in the process of transitioning to organic practices. The company even produces one cereal that is made entirely of wheat from farms that are in the process of transitioning. For many farmers, it can take years to see any financial benefit from going organic. As a result, less than one percent of the farmland in the U.S. is currently Certified Organic. Kashi believes that more organic farming is better for everyone and wants to change that.
Benefits of Kashi
Whole grain products from Kashi have a whole lot of added benefits, including:
- Higher levels of fiber
- Made with minimal processing, including none to remove parts of the wheat
- Ingredients from trustworthy sources and organic, or organic-transitioning, farmers
