The History of Mi-Del
The idea for Mi-Del came about in the early 1940s: Chicago food company owner Samuel Midel discovered that his ginger snap cookies, which were somewhat healthier than other snacks he sold, were also highly popular with customers, especially children. In turn, he decided to make and sell what are now known as Mi-Del’s Original Ginger Snaps, separate from his food business. Midel’s children assumed control of operations in 1947 and kept the company’s name - an abbreviated take on that of its founder.
Since it began selling its Swedish-style ginger snap cookies to health food stores, Mi-Del has continued to grow and offer new products - including its gluten-free options available today. Currently, it is a proud subsidiary of PANOS Brands.
