Know the founder of Soul Sprout Shari Koolik-Leidich was living a normal life in her wonderful home in the Denver area when suddenly, everything changed. One day, she noticed that her hands were inflexibly stiff and found herself barely able to grip simple things such as a pen. She also found herself wrestling with a tremendous and almost overwhelming amount of bodily discomfort. This wasn’t right. What was happening? Shortly after the problems started, Koolik-Leidich found herself in a pristine and calming office sitting on a chair listening to her doctor say something that nobody wants to hear, that Koolik-Leidich had multiple sclerosis. For those that don’t know, multiple sclerosis (also commonly known as MS) is a rare disease of the body's central nervous system. The flow of bodily information is disrupted due to nerve damage and can’t properly travel from the brain to other parts of the body. Symptoms vary wildly from person to person meaning that that a person with MS may have difficulty walking or speaking. In the case of Shari Koolik-Leidich, MS meant that she had difficulty using her hands in addition to pain and fatigue. How Soul Sprout got started Shortly after being diagnosed with MS, Shari Koolik-Leidich forged a path to her nearby grocery store for sprouted raw food options. She tried many things, but found them all to be unsatisfactory. Undeterred, she went to her kitchen and decided to make her own sprouted raw food. The first thing Koolik-Leidich did was make a tasty batch of raw sprouted blueberry granola. It was a runaway success. The steady rise of Soul Sprout Based on the success of DIY sales, Shari Koolik-Leidich launched Two Moms in the Raw (later to be named Soul Sprout) in 2006 with her mother and family.
