If a vacation to Saint-Tropez sounds pretty dreamy right about now, let us introduce you to the next best thing: luxury body care brand South of France. To recreate a Provence-style vacation, lining your bathroom counter with products that inspire a sense of relaxation and ease (while also getting the job done) are the way to go. With the right mix of essential oil fragrances, one lather, spray, or pump can easily whisk you away—at least from the sensory point of view. To keep the vacation vibes going—even on an average weekday—we also recommend keeping clean wine from France on standby.
The History of South of France
Two sisters—Molly and Katherine Oliver—founded South of France Body Care in 1999. They shared a love of Provence, and wanted to bring a touch of French sophistication to everyday skin and body care for customers in the United States. The original bar soap formula was developed by a French expat and manufactured in Europe using a traditional Marseille triple-milled recipe. (More on that below!) Today, the brand is completely stateside and manufactured in the USA, but all the ingredients are still kettle-cooked in small batches using natural, vegetable-based ingredients.
South of France Company Mission
By translating happy memories of Provence vacations into a line of luxurious bath and beauty products, South of France makes a pampering experience accessible on a daily basis. Its soaps have become an iconic staple, reflecting the brand’s commitment to French milling and other legacy techniques that have been practiced in Southern France for centuries. Milling the soap three times concentrates the natural vegetable oils and results in a longer-lasting bar that dissolves more slowly. Another detail you’ll love: Each bar is heavier and denser than conventional soap bars, and produces a rich, moisturizing foam.
Benefits of South of France
South of France’s soap is biodegradable, which means all the surfactants used (like cleaning agents) break down naturally without impacting lakes and streams. In addition, the brand boasts a number of certifications.
- Gluten-Free: South of France’s bar soaps and hand washes are Certified Gluten-Free by the National Celiac Association.
- Leaping Bunny: Every product has been certified by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics’ Leaping Bunny Program, which means no animal testing is used in any phase of product development.
- Certified Vegan: South of France’s products don’t contain animal products or byproducts, and haven’t been tested on animals.
- Forest Stewardship Council: This certification ensures that products originate from responsibly managed forests.
