Torie & Howard
One thing’s certain: Americans love candy. According to the National Retail Federation, Americans spent $8.8 billion on candy this year—and that’s just accounting for Halloween. A 2018 press release reported $1.8 billion was spent on candy to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and $2.4 billion was spent on the sweet treats to fill up children’s Easter baskets. What these reports don’t mention is how these candies are made. Artificial ingredients, dyes, preservatives, and other not-so-great ingredients are the norm in the candy aisle, but from lollipops to chocolate bars, Thrive Market’s digital aisles are stocked with all types of candy made with organic and non-GMO ingredients.
The History of Torie & Howard
Early in his interior design career, Howard Slatkin met color consultant Torie Burke. The two eventually began working together on projects around the world. After many events exploring local cuisine wherever they happened to be based, the duo began dreaming of starting a specialty food company. After Slatkin lost 100 pounds and Burke began experiencing severe food allergies, both adopted new lifestyle habits that forced them to make serious diet changes. Naturally, they became focused on finding wholesome snack options and felt like the time was right to start their own company.

- Yeseina from Fla., says whenever she has a craving for something sweet, she grabs a hard candy instead.
- Karen from Ill., reports that her kids love the chewy candies, and she appreciates that they’re healthier than conventional candy. Danny from Ohio has a similar opinion. “These are great for the after-school snack, or even to keep in your car or purse.”
