White Leaf Provisions
What happens when an Irish-born, classically trained chef meets someone who was raised by serial entrepreneurs? They start a business, of course! Keith Rowe’s upbringing in a small rural village where locally sourced food was the norm influenced his feelings about agriculture, and his wife, Megan, grew up around entrepreneurs in fields like health and commerce. Together, they shared a vision for offering better-for-you food options to inspire a mindful life. White Leaf Provisions is certified by Demeter USA, which is considered the international seal of approval for Biodynamic practices, and helps support the next generation of farmers by sponsoring farm-to-school gardens and educational programs throughout the United States.
The History of White Leaf Provisions
Keith and Megan Rowe founded White Leaf Provisions in 2016. After their son Keegan was born, they set out in search of the purest organic food to feed him and came up short. In talking with fellow parents, the couple realized how many questions people had regarding food products, farming methods, and health. They were inspired to help fill a need in the marketplace.
White Leaf Provisions Company Mission
The founders of White Leaf Provisions believe being mindful of the food we eat and how it was grown is one step towards being more in tune with the world around us. That’s why this family business creates pure foods in partnership with biodynamic farms—to help regenerate the land our children will inherit.
Benefits of White Leaf Provisions
White Leaf Provisions is a biodynamic brand, which means the farms where it sources all of its ingredients support a variety of sustainable practices.
- Compost is king: On biodynamic farms, chemical fertilizers are prohibited. The alternative? Rich compost made right on the farm that enriches the soil year after year.
- Take cover: Cover crops like vetch (a flowering plant in the legume family) and rye (a grass that’s grown for grain) help add nutrients to the soil, eliminate the need for fertilizers, reduce oil erosion, and create more biodiversity on the farm.
- GMOs be gone: In addition to banning chemical fertilizers, GMOs are also on the no-go list.
- Switch it up: On a biodynamic farm, crops are rotated to a new spot each year, which helps reduce disease and increase soil fertility.
