These are the perfect kitchen bin size bag and I love that they are biodegradable. They are a little weaker then I’d like and aren’t able to hold as much as other bags.

Don't Disintegrate With Moist Compost!

As mindful as we are about not putting a bunch of wet stuff in our indoor compost bin, it happens -- and these bags have held up great! We've never had a bag fall completely apart or cause any real problems. We occasionally will see a small hole if a wet (plastic-free) tea bag sits against the bag for too long but overall, we love these bags, continue to buy them and highly recommend them.

Great bags

I like these bags to replace my normal garbage bags. I do need to keep wet products separate as they will force disintegrating. I like that these are a safer product for the environment.

I would love for these to actually hold trash. I’m all about protecting the environment and reducing our exposure to plastics but these are just terrible. I can’t possibly use them again. They simply don’t hold trash.

Great alternative to plastic

These are what we use in our garbage can. Only issue is that they tear easily so you need to be gentle. Also, because they biodegrade, do not leave them in your garage in the back of a shelf opened and forgot that you did that. I did and had little green particles all over the place when I found the open box. Other wise clearly these do break down- we need more alternatives to plastic for sure!

Too fragile

These bags are much too fragile. I filled them with my paper shreds from the paper shredder and barely made it to the garbage can before they started to rip. There was nothing moist in them and I did not handle them roughly. I ended up using two bags for something I usually use only one bag for.

use carefully

I tried these out, but they didn't work for my kitchen trash use. I only empty my trash once a week. The bag was disintegrating by then. What a mess at the bottom of my container! We'll use them in our office, where the trash is dry stuff. They might work better in a kitchen where the trash gets emptied every day. It's too bad, because I hate using regular plastic.

Want to love

I wanted to love this because it's just so compostable, but you can barely open the bag before it rips! It's just not practical.

Good Biodegradable Option

Biodegradable trash bags have been hard for me to find! These are fine, but a little small for my kitchen trash can. I use packing tape to attach to the top side of my can, because it will collapse in on itself if I don't. It's a bit flimsier than regular plastic, but serves the purpose for kitchen waste. And I'm happy to keep some plastic out of the landfill!

Food scrap bags

They do not make very good everyday kitchen trash bags unless you are a little to no waste family. They are great for food scraps and minimal amounts of trash but don't hold up like normal trash bags. We also use them for bagging grass after mowing.

We don't throw a lot of trash out - probably once every two weeks the bag gets full. It's always massively torn in a couple places when we take it out. It doesn't take much liquid (think a damp teabag or two) to make these bags ineffective.

Good product

The bags are good for the purpose--not 5 star from me only because I don't need 13 gallon bags--I can't fill them fast enough and one time the bottom got soggy and tore from sitting around too long. If you have a larger household (more than 3 people) they will work for you.

Love these!

Be careful not to soak them in water too long as they will break apart in a few days. I actually love that they do "melt", because I know they won't pollute the environment for 100 years and kill wildlife as regular plastic bags do.

Fragrance free!

I use these bags because they have no smell. I can't tolerate chemical smells or fragrances so it's nice to have this option. BUT, it's not a great trash bag. We have to be careful not to overfill (no pushing down the trash in the can) and anything wet (chicken skins, potato peels) have to be bagged before they go in.

These are not trash bags!

I bought these thinking they were for my kitchen trash, but the box says that they are food scraps bags. They are so thin that I'm not even sure they will hold up my kitchen trash, so I can't use them.

These aren't strong enough to be used for trash bags. I put them away for another use and used something else for my trash.

falls apart

I was looking for environmental kitchen bin bags and honestly when full, these bags puncture easily leaving you with a mess at the bottom of your trash can. Either double bag them or look for something else.

Broke on first use

At the time I used these I was on a juice fast so my trash consisted of used paper towels and left over pulp from my juicer. After three days I went to remove the trash to take outside and the bag completely tore apart and all the waste dumped into the trash can.... I don't know if I used them wrong, but needless to say, I won't order them again.

hard to get out of basket

The plastic is kind of sticky so it sticks to the sides of my basket. It's hard to pull out and sometimes in the process a hole will rip in the side. I will still buy them but they need care in taking them out of the basket.

Requires some Thought

These definitely require some thought to them. While wetness (like water) doesn't seem to break them down, any type of moisture from bodily fluids will break them down pretty easily. That means all of my attempts to use this for cat litter and diapers has completely destroyed them before I even got to take them out. I've been using regular plastic for my bodily waste bags, and these go out on a twice-weekly schedule for the rest of the house's garbage. This takes a bit of effort on my part, but I'm happy that less plastic is going into the environment. I just wish the bags weren't quite THIS efficient at composting!

Works Quite Well

I love the idea of biodegradable bags. Using trash bags has always bothered me and worried me because I hate throwing more waste into the environment. These have worked just fine for me. We don't throw away anything too heavy or pointy, and we've never had anything break on us. They hold a decent amount of stuff, and they easily go into the community trash can for waste removal. Nothing too fancy here.

13-Gal size tears immediately

I've used the smaller bags for pet waste with no problem, but every single one of these kitchen bags tore right out of the box. They just peeled apart at the seam, no matter how gently I handled them. Other reviewers seem to like them for composting, so maybe that's the ticket.

Doing my part for the environment

Honestly, I'm just kind of tired of plastic products, and I'm trying to recycle as much as I can. These bags aren't less durable than the standard ones I buy, but I like that I can take them to a compost facility and that they won't end up in a landfill. It's a bit more expensive than what I buy at Target, but being environmental conscious isn't always going to be cheap. I'm just glad Thrive makes it easy to eat healthy and to buy green products at a great discount.

Could Be Great

These are a really, really neat idea, and I've loved using them. I think I'd love them more in a small bathroom size than this full-size kitchen size. They hold a decent amount of garbage, and I haven't had any problem with them breaking because of weight. However, the bag does start to decompost when it gets really wet. Depending on what type of garbage you throw out, this can be a problem. It hasn't been a serious issue as of yet, but we had two times where we went to take out the trash and the garbage bag had some seeming "neat" holes where it looked like the bag had started breaking down. Great bags, but we just have to be conscious of what we put in them.

Eco Friendly

These bags are great! They do break if too much is put in them, but it isn't a general issue. In our area they don't do compost pick up, but I am able to compost on my own and once the food begins to decompose I mix it with soil and water and the bags decompose rather quickly. These are so eco-friendly and make composting extremely easy since now I don't have to run left over foods or rotten foods outside every time and I can just peel right into the bag. It is great! I love these bags and feel great knowing I am helping protect our planet by both composting and using biodegradable bags!

It is a very good product.

I like this particular waste bag because they are compostable, so I would be able to help the environment. They tear easily when you put so many things on them but it is expected of a compoundable bag. It is a very good product.
