Made coconut yogurt with this!

I couldn't belive it worked! I'm a newbie at ehw kitchen and it worked for me. I used my Insta pot, make sure you're has a yogurt setting if you want to make this on yours. It really worked! The coconut flavor was a little strong for me but not sure if that's because of the kind of milk I used, I still enjoyed it, I just had to add some other flavors to it like maple syrup or berries. Good buy!

Got me started on my Yogurt Journey

It was my first time trying to make non-dairy yogurt at home and I found some reviews online that this starter was the best place to start. 100% right!! I fumbled a little on the milk I was using (not reading carefully about keeping preservatives and other items out of the milk, pure nuts/water or whatever milk you use it the best). Once I found the right milk, this starter was perfect. Great yogurt each time, without any fuss!!!

Works Every Time

I keep my starter in the freezer when not in use. When I’m ready to use it, I let it come to room temperature then mix it with WestSoy plain (regular fat) soy milk in mason jars and use the yogurt function on my Instant Pot for 11 hrs. Super simple and it comes out perfectly every time.

Super cost effective!!!

I am so grateful that Thrive carries this product! For a great price you can make your own vegan yogurt, which is much more cost effective than buying from the healthfood store in my experience. And I make mine with the minimal amount of sugar and don't add any extra sugar after incubation. I like my yougurts tart and not oversly sweetened. And I love being able to order this from Trhive! By the way, the Cultures for Health website has free ebooks with info on how to make things like yogurt, kombucha, and various fermented foods/beverages. Great educational resource!

Regardless of date starter was dead

so disappointing. I bought 2 boxes and although the date is October 2018 - it was dead. After 8 hours in the yogurt maker it was still as liquid as when it was poured in the jar.

Make Your Own Probiotics Easily

If you have your own yogurt maker at home, try this! It's well-worth the time (easy set-up instructions) and money you save buying from the store regularly. If you don't have your own yogurt maker, check it out. They are very easy to use and priced very reasonably.

Yummy Coconut Yogurt

I love this for making coconut yogurt. I follow the recipe on the cultures for health website and it turns out great! I use a yogurt maker and grass fed gelatin to thicken.

really does make yogurt out of nut milk

I've made a couple of batches of yogurt and it really works with nut milks. I just make my own by soaking nuts overnight and then blenderizing them and filtering. I don't know if I save much money, but I like that it's just nut milk and doesn't have any added stuff. I add some gelatin to give it more consistency since it stays pretty watery if you don't add some kind of gelling agent.

No success yet

I tried almond milk first, before seeing their suggestion specifically not to use almond milk. Then I tried cashew milk. None of them thickend. I don't have any way to keep heat consistent, but though I might be able to just wing it. But hasn't worked. I'm rating it a 3 because it's got my curiosity.

you need a yogurt maker!

I wish it were more clear that you need a yogurt maker to use this starter. Not all ovens can hold at a temp as low as 108 degrees (the preferred temperature), and slow cookers hold at above 180. Without a yogurt maker, this is hard to use effectively.

Life Changer

I've never made yogurt before and was so nervous...this product worked so well. I used my oven since I don't have a yogurt maker and didn't have a thermometer, so I just used my judgement and some tactile cues I found online. Edensoy original unsweetened soy milk was perfect. I thickened with a tablespoon of tapioca starch. Delicious!!!!!

Great vegan starter

I've been using Cultures for Health's vegan yogurt starter for years now with homemade coconut milk. The taste is slightly different from that of traditional starters -- not quite as robust -- but I enjoy it. Like any starter, the flavor grows more sour/tangy the longer you let it ferment. I accidentally fermented a batch at 110 degrees for nearly 24 hours once without any negative results. The flavor was quite pronounced in a pleasant way, and now I try to let it set at least 9 hours before refrigerating. Note that this is *not* a GF starter (see the CfH website for more info).
