When I got this scoby I thought it was going to be a live scoby I could start using immediately. I did not realize it was dehydrated. But after allowing it to rehydrate for 30 days it has been producing nice kombucha.

Works Great!

The first time I used this dehydrated scoby was my first time, and I ended up ruining it (mold), but I learned a lot. I bought another, and this time it's working great! I followed the directions to a 'T' on the box, hydrating the scoby first, and then I started making quart batches. I still don't have a baby scoby, so my batches are staying at a quart. I've been getting 2 quarts of kombucha a month. 1 quart every 2 weeks. The first batch, I used black tea bags, but the batches after that, I've been using my favorite green tea, and it's working very well. Just follow the directions as they are stated in the sheet that comes with the dehydrated scoby, and you'll be good!

Tried twice, no success

I tried this twice with it much success. I followed directions to a T, as soon as I quit adding vinegar to my batches I got mold. Customer service was nice in that they sent me a replacement the first time. Second time I added vinegar longer than recommended but still mold first batch without. So I babied these for months and all I got was vinegar tea. I had better success with their water kefir.

Had to rehydrate, but it works just fine

I've been making home made kombucha at home for the last three years and am a bit of a culture collector. One thing I've learned is that with kombucha, patience is a virtue. Things can go weird or wrong, but they can always (well, almost always be fixed). This was my first foray into using a dehydrated scoby. At first I was a bit skeptical if it would work. I followed the directions on the package and waited. Within a few weeks I had a new scoby growing on my first batch and have had more scobys grow with each subsequent batch. I purchased this dehydrated scoby out of curiosity how it would make by finished buch taste. It's not my favorite, it's a little more dry than I'm used to but as far as a thriving culture it keeps growing and growing and producing fizzy buch.

Did not work

I bought 3 packs to make sure if one did not work I had enough to try again. I talked with friends who had brewed at home, I spoke with people who had started dehydrated scobys and knew it would likely not take on the first try, or that it would take an extra long time, I read books & watched videos and I talked to a gal at a health food store who coordinates fresh scoby & kombucha starter for local people as my extra backup (what I ended up doing). My first round smelled foul and molded. My second took 2 months and dried up. My third one never took after a month and a half (I started it at the same time as the second batch). It was a very discouraging experience. I now have 2 fresh scobys from locals (they are grown first by other people and given to me with starter liquid) & it has been joyously easy! I would NOT recommend dehydrated.
