It did smell a little rancid to me when I opened it, but the flavor was fine. Could it be that rendered duck fat just has a peculiar smell? <\/p>\n

So rich and flavorful, and it adds a uniqueness to foods that no other fats do. I used to be a bacon grease and lard type, but I have used this duck fat more and more often since trying it. \n I received one of these as a free gift with an order and it was rancid when I opened it. Unfortunately, this is not the first Epic product I tried that was rancid. While this was a free gift, I have purchased from them in the past and had the same issue. I don't mind paying what high-quality food is worth, but food waste is a huge pet peeve of mine. The dates are good on the products, so this is clearly an Epic issue, and not a Thrive issue. Frustrating, and I can't in good conscience keep throwing dollars or hopes into this brand. <\/p>\n
