In 2009, Lauryn Chun wanted to honor the restaurant her mother started 20 years earlier - Mother-in-Law's House, based in Garden Grove, California.

The brand's original offering is based on the recipe started in that very restaurant, also known as Jang Mo Jip, and spawned a cookbook in 2012 as well. The company grew even more in 2014, with fermented chili paste and other condiments added to its lineup.
