More about USDA certified organic products
Pacific Foods uses only USDA-approved organic mushrooms in their condensed cream of mushroom soup. The USDA stamp is important. While any food can claim to be organic, having this official seal certifies that the manufacturer is following strict guidelines that ensures the product preserves natural resources, supports animal health and welfare, and does not have GMOs, pesticides, or artificial preservatives. Only foods that meet this specific criteria, and pass annual inspections, receive the USDA certification.
What’s in a mushroom?
Mushrooms are technically fungi, but they are considered part of the vegetable family with many plant-like qualities. Mushrooms have no cholesterol and hardly any fat content, and they are low in calories. The chitin carbohydrate found in the structure of mushrooms is also native to shellfish like crabs and shrimp. In addition to the stores of potassium, fiber, and protein, mushrooms make a good substitute for meat in vegetarian and vegan diets; in fact, portabella mushrooms are often used to replicate a burger or steak. Here’s what else you’ll find in this hearty vegetable:
- Fiber: Mushrooms are a low-calorie source of fiber, and contain a good dose of starchy chitin and the immune-boosting polysaccharide beta-glucan. Both of these fibers have been known to lower cholesterol and improve heart health. Shiitake mushrooms even contain critadenine, a nutrient that can help the liver better process cholesterol.
- Vitamin D: Mushrooms are a rare source of vegetable-based vitamin D. This is the natural vitamin that can be absorbed through sunlight. But those living in more overcast areas can develop a deficiency, which is why it’s important to make vitamin D a part of any standard diet.
- Antioxidants: Foods that are rich in antioxidants include mushrooms. Antioxidants have been the focus of much research for all the benefits they provide to the body, including reducing free radicals in the bloodstream that can lead to cancer and early aging, as well as preventing blood clots and improving blood flow.
Health benefits of mushrooms
Given all the incredible properties of mushrooms, the vegetable can lead to a number of health benefits, including:
- Cancer prevention. Recent studies have indicated that white button mushrooms in particular can significantly reduce breast cancer cell growth. Mushrooms also provide a large portion of the daily recommended value of selenium, which has been seen as helpful in the prevention of bladder cancer.
- Immune system boost. Beta-glucan is a compound commonly found in mushrooms. This nutrient acts as a protectant against many forms of illnesses such as the flu, common cold, and other types of viruses. Mushrooms also contain a molecule known as lentinan, which stimulates the natural production of disease-fighting interferon. This helps create T cells that prepare the body to attack viral infections.
- Better metabolism. Mushrooms are a good source of B vitamins, specifically vitamins B2 (riboflavin) and B3 (niacin). This family of vitamins assists in converting food into fuel and plays a role in metabolizing fats and protein.
Recipe using Pacific Foods Organic Cream of Mushroom Condensed Soup
While it tastes great on its own, this cream of mushroom soup is also a great base for tasty casseroles. Here’s one from Pacific Foods that’s provided right on the box:
The childhood classic gets a modern update with some healthful ingredients and a modified gluten-free option. To make, combine one pound of fresh broccoli cut into bite-sized pieces with two boxes of Pacific Foods Organic Cream of Mushroom Condensed Soup.
Add in shallots, butter, two cups of pasta, and a special cheese sauce made of butter, flour, salt, and pepper, milk, and grated sharp cheddar cheese. To make it gluten-free, all you need to do is swap in a wheatless pasta and replace the flour with arrowroot starch, which acts as a thickening agent.
After preparing all the ingredients, it only takes 30-40 minutes to bake, providing an easy weekday dinner idea the whole family can enjoy.

Organic Cream of Mushroom Condensed Soup
I love this soup. I add it to my casseroles, sauces or as soup. I always try to have a few in my cupboard for my dishes I make.
Organic Cream of Mushroom Soup
This is a good soup and I use it frequently for certain recipes. I would dearly love to have cream of celery but that's a different story. Good stuff!
I liked this
This does not have a strong mushroom flavor (which I like) but it was good.
Happy to have this good GF option. I use it in many recipies and it works out well.
We enjoy this when making golash nice clean product.
Excellent soup and I love the way it's packaged. Environmentally friendly and it fits on a shelf.
Yummy for gravy
I use this soup as a gravy. I add a little coconut milk and maybe a dash of Worcestershire sauce and pepper. Everyone tells me it's the best gravy they have ever had and ask for the recipe...
Cream of Mushroom Soup
I absolutely love this soup! Can't get enough of it and it's become a staple for my household!
- Susan Fisher
Great for casseroles!
Nice flavor and easy to use.
Delicious organic mushroom soup! Very versatile.
Buy more than one!
Being gluten free for years I did not think I would ever use a pre-made mushroom soup again because they all have gluten plus they're not great. This is a huge improvement over flavor, quality and ingredients and NO gluten. A wonderful much healthier version for sure. We also like that it is not in a can.
I prefer to use a homemade cream of mushroom soup but this is wonderful in a pinch! It tastes great! I always keep it on hand. Great price on Thrive Market too!
Organic Cream ofMushroom Condensed Soup
Loved this product-used several months now, as it is the answer not only to a creamy soup(Gluten-free) but as the sauce for my casserole dishes.
cream of mushroom
yummmm.....great base for sauces
Could be better
This condensed soup comes out rather thin if you use the recommended amount of liquid. Trader Joe's makes a Portobello mushroom soup that's much better, but it's not always available.
Creamy and good
Great taste and convenient! I use it for soup or for recipes calling for cream of mushroom soup and the best part is that it is gluten free.
- Irene F
I used this in a beef tips recipe that I've used for years with a canned mushroom soup. This mushroom soup added a great flavor. I'll be using this one again.
- CJ McNair
Finally a condensed soup that's worth buying!
The fact that the ingredients are excellent and it is gluten free was enough for me to give this a try but we were amazed at the flavor! There are actual mushrooms in it! It tastes like homemade! This is amazing for a pre-made condensed soup. This will forever be a staple in our cupboard!
I really enjoy using this product. I use it as soup or I can use it as a sauce. The flavor is very tasty you get a nice mushroom flavor and lots of mushrooms and I added whatever additional spices go with the dish I am making. I like that it isn't salty like most condensed soups. Only down side is the container I wish it was easier to open and reuse.
favorite organic, GF cream of mushroom soup
Love this product! Tastes great in any recipe I am making. I prefer organic & GF
HALLELUJAH - NO MSG!
I'm extremely sensitive to MSG, and get migraines when I eat even a little of it. So along with Chinese food, I have to pay very close attention to any kind of canned soup. Unfortunately, this has meant that I cannot make any of the hundreds of recipes that use cream of mushroom.
There is NO MSG in this one, and it's delicious! The first thing I made with this was chicken breasts baked in cream of mushroom soup, which I used to love when my mom made it. It tasted even better than I remembered, and I didn't have to add any seasoning to the sauce, it already had a nice garlicy taste, and a great creamy consistency. This has opened up new doors for me in the kitchen!

Pour this over sauteed grass-fed beef and frozen organic veggies for a quick, yummy dinner
SO good! Perfect for stroganoff!
My mom used to make stroganoff for us on a regular basis using cream of mushroom soup, ground beef, and rice, all topped with sour cream. Since living on my own, I get homesick for my family and the dinners we'd cook together, this stroganoff being one of those. It's the perfect hearty comfort food dish for cold winter days or if I'm just feeling homesick. At over $3/can at the grocery stores, this is a little pricier than what I'm used to, but Thrive Market has their single boxes cheaper than other online bulk rates--and you can only get those discounts if you buy a certain amount. And this particular brand is especially flavorful, not watered down, and has a great amount of mushrooms (other brands seem stingy in comparison with their mushrooms). It's also nice that this soup is organic, non-GMO, and gluten-free so I can use it to make my favorite dishes for pretty much all of my friends. I try to shop organic and non-GMO whenever I can, and this soup is even cheaper than some of the regular soups that aren't those. All around great product.
Great consistency, too much sodium.
If you are looking for mushroom soup with several mushroom slices, this is not the product you are looking for. This is a mushroom flavored cream with very little mushroom pieces. It has great consistency and definitely works well as an addition to other meals.
I did find it high in sodium, however, which is something I try to avoid. So, it had to be mixed with other foods to reduce the saltiness.
- Barb Bates
I use it to bake chicken!
When I am in the mood for tacos or burritos, I put this soup and some chicken in Pyrex and bake it. The soup has a lot of mushroom, garlic and spices that when added to the chicken are delicious!
I am gluten-free and prefer to eat organic. This soup is both! They don't use the traditional gluten thickener which is awesome! I love Pacific Foods soup and will buy this again!
- Heather Fernandez
The only reason I tried this soup was because of a soy allergy so I had to steer away from the generic canned brands. This product separates itself for many other reasons too as it is GMO free, gluten-free, and organic.
Another thing to keep in mind when comparing prices is that most cans are 8 oz and this soup is 10 oz, so you're actually getting 50% more product! It also tastes great, a wonderful product to always keep in the house.
- Barbara Haynes
Seriously good stuff
After years of being gluten free and not having canned cream of mushroom soup, I finally came across this item. This is very good and so much better than what I remember of the old Campbell's soup variety. I had learned to get along without it. Now, the Pacific Foods Cream of Mushroom soup, I can't imagine not having it in the pantry. An excellent product.
Easy Casserole Sauce
I had to rethink many of my weeknight dinner recipes when my son had to go gluten-free. This product was a happy find. I use this product to create many quick and easy starch/sauce/protein/vegetable casseroles for an easy dinner. Delicious, healthy, and gluten-free.
A Pantry Staple
I love mushroom soup with true creamy taste and not the Campbell starchy taste!
I was looking for a gluten green product and came across this brand. I tried both the cream of mushroom and cream of chicken for the first time. Family loved the taste. Could not tell the difference in texture or density vs cambells.
- Thrive User
This tastes so good, I use it for everything!
By itself, green bean casserole, roasts, gravy. Yum!
Since I had to go GF, mushroom soup was something I would get hungry for.
Many brands I tried were okay, some not good, but this IS YUM!
