Why You’ll Love Ground Turmeric Root
If you really want to spice things up, take home a bottle of Simply Organic Ground Turmeric Root. Though it’s most well known for giving curry its distinctive orange color and gingery, peppery taste, turmeric’s benefits go far beyond just food.
The powerhouse spice has also played a role in ancient Ayurvedic medicine and modern skincare thanks to a high concentration of the plant enzyme curcumin, which offers a wealth of anti-aging antioxidants, natural disinfectant properties, and more than two dozen powerful anti-inflammatory compounds.
Each 2.38 oz. bottle is filled with only organic spice, ground from the root of the perennial turmeric plant native to Asia, which keeps the wealth of healthy benefits intact.
The health benefits of turmeric
Turmeric is one of the most powerful additions to your spice rack, used for thousands of years for its intense flavor and even more impressive health benefits. Among the most basic is the ability to help disinfect cuts, heal stomach pains, and relieve colds, though there are many more positive impacts.
- Increased antioxidants. The more antioxidants present in your system, the better your cells can fight off the free radical damage that leads to a weakened immune system, early aging, even cancer.
- Better brain function. Curcumin has been known to increase the level of the neurological hormone Brain Derived Neuropathic Factor (BDNF for short). This can help to stimulate the growth of new neurons and fight degenerative processes like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
- Heart health. Another possible benefit of the spice is better blood vessel function, which is important for maintaining healthy blood pressure and helping blood to clot. Because curcumin reduces inflammation and oxidation, it can also play an important role in preventing heart disease.
- Arthritis relief. Turmeric has historically been used over the past thousand years to treat joint pain. The anti-inflammatory compounds can ease systemic inflammation, including in the joints.
- Easing depression. A recent study in 60 diagnosed patients showed that curcumin could be an effective tool for helping to treat depression. Though it is still being researched, the results are promising.
A turmeric mask to rejuvenate skin
Applying turmeric to the body can be just as beneficial as consuming it. Indian brides have traditionally created a special body wrap that includes turmeric, which is applied on the eve of their wedding for beautifully glowing skin on the big day. Because the ancient spice is high in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory effects, it can slow cell damage, exfoliate rough skin, and soothe acne, dryness, and even eczema. Combined with yogurt and honey, this sunny yellow face mask with turmeric is amazing for all skin types.
Turmeric recipes for when you’re sick
If you rely on Emergen-C when you are getting sick, try switching things up with turmeric tea or a quick shot of ginger and turmeric. The spice has been known to help cure the sniffles, headaches, sneezes, and sore throats.
All that’s needed are three ingredients for this soothing drink. First, create a thick paste by combining turmeric and honey (create extra and store in the fridge for three months for quick access any time you are under the weather). Then boil water, pour into a mug, and add a teaspoon of the concoction with the juice of a lemon. The honey and lemon will soothe a sore throat while turmeric’s antibacterial and antiseptic properties can help fight the illness quicker.
Prime the juicer, and create this wellness shot by liquefying ginger and turmeric, and combining with lemon, honey, and pepper. In addition to turmeric’s role, ginger offers a little immunity boost as well as some pain relief.
Cooking with turmeric every day
But, you don’t have to be sick to enjoy turmeric—in fact, it will probably taste better when you are feeling your best and have the energy to try these delicious recipes.
Get a morning wakeup call without caffeine with this creative latte inspired by ancient Ayurvedic medicine. Liver-cleansing dandelion root tea is the base while ground turmeric, minced ginger, and fresh black pepper provide some pep. Add unsweetened almond milk and honey to taste.
Baked potatoes get a boost when you use sweet potatoes jazzed up with a stuffing of sauteed greens, sliced avocado, and a tasty tahini-turmeric dressing. While it makes a great side, the dish is filling enough to be a main course, too.
Even a little bit of turmeric can go a long way. This heavenly vegan butter uses sea salt and a couple of different oils—avocado and coconut, to be exact—to create an incredible spread for breads and rolls that tastes just like the real thing. A pinch of turmeric makes it even look the same.
Turmeric is often used in savory, spicy recipes, yet these blueberry muffins are a totally unexpected but just as delicious choice. This recipe yields 12 muffins, which you can store and grab on the go for breakfast or a mid-day snack. Pecans and rolled oats add in a bit of crunch and texture while the blueberry jam filling is just sweet enough.
This unique blend is not only satisfying, it’s also packed with healthy produce like carrots and fresh peaches. The fruit and veggie combo offers a jolt of long-lasting energy, and the turmeric and ginger work their detoxifying magic. Almond milk tones down the spice and also makes this drink super creamy.
For a more traditional use of turmeric, try this chicken curry that balances spicy ginger, turmeric, and cinnamon with rich, refreshing coconut alongside citrusy, sour notes from the lime and lemongrass. Instead of rice, serve wilted spinach as the base to add in some greens and make the dish Paleo-friendly.
Turmeric is almost always associated with curries, but the addition of eggplant truly sets this one apart. While it’s packed with spices and flavors, including smoky paprika and creamy ghee, chilled Greek yogurt will balance everything out. Not only is it gluten-free and Paleo, but it’s also 100 percent vegetarian.

What a difference!
I still had a bit of typical, non-organic, grocery store-brand turmeric left -- I tried them both head-to-head. What a huge difference -- in color, aroma and taste. Very pleased!

No problems whatsoever with the product, but I don't really think this price is lower than what you would pay at the supermarket.

Turmeric. Organic. Doesn't get much better
Turmeric is the bomb, and this organic turmeric is a great price! I ordered 2 bottles last time to ensure I wouldn't run out - love using it in my golden milk and cooking with it!
PACKS A PUNCH
Using REAL TURMERIC is too much for me to handle. I find that using Turmeric in powdered form has allowed me to get used to the taste and strengthen the quantity as I go along. This is one fantastic root and so healthy. If using the real root is too tough, use the powdered form.
High quality turmeric, endless health benefits
Some people hype up turmeric as a miracle spice, but it really depends on the quality of the turmeric you're getting. The best way to get the most out of your turmeric is to get the highest quality possible, and Simply Organic is a great place to go for that.
I love the flavor of turmeric and I put it in almost all my lunch/dinner foods (it even goes well with some breakfast foods like eggs, but I definitely leave it out of my blueberry pancakes). Turmeric is a superb anti-inflammatory substance and since incorporating turmeric in my diet, I've seen vast improvements in workout recovery time (I don't get as sore and I don't stay sore for as long) sick recovery time (shorter duration, symptoms don't feel as severe), and even in my skin clarity.
I've actually been aware of Simply Organic for years and I'm so glad Thrive Market carries some of their brand. I think Thrive Market is a great idea and I'm happy that I can support them and Simply Organic in one convenient place.
Great Color and Medicinal
My Fibromyalgia symptoms were getting the best of me when I read that turmeric would help I bought a jar. I added a little to everything I cook and I feel a bit better. Not magic, but noticeable. It also ads a very powerful yellow to my food.
I really wish that it was not so expensive locally! I was able to buy this on Thrive or $2 cheaper than I can get at my local grocer. i would buy this again even though all my dishes are now yellow.
- Christina Norton
Since I tried this turmeric and learned about it's various health benefits, I put it in just about everything savory. I had originally purchased it to add to my daily warm water and lemon but now I add it to almost everything. It has a pleasant and mild taste. I even keep a small container of it with me so I can add it to foods while I'm out, I know that seems crazy but that's how good it is!
