Why You’ll Love Organic Salted Almond Dark Chocolate- 70% Cocoa

Enjoy the perfect sweet treat at the end of the day with Organic Salted Almond 70% Cocoa Dark Chocolate by Theo Chocolate. This insanely dark chocolate bar is made with the finest cocoa, absolutely irresistible crunchy almonds, and just a hint of sea salt. Bite in and enjoy the perfect combo of sweet and salty that melts in on the tongue. While many chocolate bars on the market have loads of excess sugars or soy lecithin that detracts from the rich cocoa flavor of the beans, Theo Chocolate uses prime ingredients to create a bar that is certified USDA Organic, vegan, and non-GMO. On top of that, Theo Chocolate is Fair Trade and has a mission to support charities, making the chocolate bar all the more sweeter.

How is chocolate made?

Chocolate is certainly something to be enjoyed in moderation, but Theo Chocolate Organic Salted Almond 70% Cocoa Dark Chocolate offers a handful of health benefits—making it an indulgence not to feel guilty about. Not all chocolate bars, however, are going to be as good as this one and the big reason is because of how the chocolate is made.

Chocolate makers have a relatively stressful job, as every step in the manufacturing process plays a significant part in the final flavor and quality of the bar. By lowering standards in only one step of the entire process, it can greatly affect the taste of the finished chocolate bar once it’s on store shelves. Even the geographic location of the cocoa trees from which the beans are sourced will affect the taste.

Cocoa is big business in areas like western Africa, Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica, and other areas that have a similar tropical climate. A precise amount of rainfall is needed to grow cocoa beans, as well as just the right temperature, and if either of those factors fail then the trees may not survive. When conditions are perfect, the fruit on the cocoa tree grows, and the beans are then removed from the pods to move on to the next step in the chocolate making process.

Beans get fermented and dried, locking in the final flavor that they’ll give off and are transported safely to the processing area. Once arrived they are cleaned, sometimes mixed with other beans to create a more complex flavor, and then roasted. Roasting cocoa beans truly brings out that irresistible, rich chocolate flavor. The person creating the chocolate determines at which temperature to roast, because it can be at different temperatures or for different time periods. Beans of the same origin can be roasted for different amounts of time or at different heats to result in vastly different chocolate!

The process continues when the chocolate makers remove the outer shell and take out the cocoa nibs. These get ground up and liquefied, and sometimes additional ingredients are thrown into the mix to perfect the flavor. This mixture continues to be mixed for hours—sometimes even days—until the mouthfeel is just right. The mixture is then poured into molds for the chocolate bars (or final product) and cooled.

Why choose Theo Chocolate Organic Salted Almond 70% Cocoa Dark Chocolate?

Cocoa Beans*+, Sugar*+, Almonds*, Cocoa Butter*+, Fleur de Sel, Ground Vanilla Bean*

Chocolate cravings are easy to satisfy, especially when newspapers and magazines love to praise chocolate for its flavonoid content, making people believe it’s healthy. But not so fast—not all chocolate bars are created equal. Sweets are notorious for having additives like lecithin, hydrogenated oils, non-organic dairy products, soybean oil, processed sugars, high fructose corn syrup, or sucrose. Although that’s not the case with Theo Chocolate Organic Salted Almond 70% Cocoa Dark Chocolate, which only contains cocoa beans, sugar, almonds, cocoa butter, fleur de sel, and ground vanilla bean. These cocoa ingredients are inherently beneficial for health, and consuming in a purer, such as this chocolate bar, form is the only way to reap the benefits. All the extra sugars, oils, and other ingredients in other candy bars lessen the cocoa’s strength and fill up the body with empty calories and saturated fats.

When eating Theo Chocolate Organic Salted Almond 70% Cocoa Dark Chocolate, rest be assured since it only contains the best (and USDA Organic) ingredients, including cocoa beans, sugar, almonds, cocoa butter, fleur de sel (a salt), and ground vanilla bean. This cocoa offers a strong, bitter flavor, and just the right amount of sugar that makes it completely irresistible.

Benefits of cacao

Cacao, which creates cocoa, is actually quite good for the human body. It’s the milk solids and additives, however, that make chocolate unhealthy and blocks the nutrients that cacao naturally provides.

  • Protein: These truly are the building blocks of the body. Hair and nails, for example, are mostly made of protein, and it’s needed to heal from cuts and other injuries since it is necessary for the generation of bones, muscles, cartilage, and blood. Protein also helps to create enzymes, hormones, and many other vital chemicals for the body.

  • Calcium: This does more than strengthen the bones and help prevent osteoporosis, calcium also allows blood clotting (yes, there’s such thing as good blood clotting) and allows nerves to send their messages to the rest of the body.

  • Carotene: Once it’s consumes it converts into vitamin A, which is essential for eye health, a hearty immune system, youthful-looking skin, and healthy mucous membranes. It’s also helpful with the growth and regeneration of heart, lung, kidney, and skin cells.

  • Riboflavin: Also known as B2, one of eight of the important B vitamins. These vitamins convert the food people eat (carbohydrates) into fuel for the body (glucose), which produces energy. Vitamin B2 is especially important because it operates as an antioxidant, helping the body from free-radical damage and also lowering cancer, heart disease, and chronic illness risks.

  • Magnesium: This appears in every cell in the body, making it vital for human existence. It has anti-inflammatory properties and aids in biochemical reactions performed by enzymes, which then provides the body with energy.

  • Flavonoids: The notorious nutrient that all the news outlets latch onto, and for good reason: it works wonders for blood. Flavonoids have been proven to help lower blood pressure and improve overall blood flow to the heart and brain, as well as prevent clots.

  • Antioxidants: These powerful fighters help prevent the oxidation of other molecules in the body, which can prevent chronic disease in the future. Although antioxidants are mostly found in fresh fruits and vegetables, cacao actually has more than most produce options.

I liked it but...

It was a bit salty for me. If you like salty things go for it. If you like just a little bit then it might be a bit much.

- Lily

Favorite

My boyfriend has an extreme sweet tooth & I'm a savory, salty freak- THIS is our compromise. We keep a bar in the fridge and have a square after dinner. The dark chocolate is delicious and the sea salt almonds make this the perfect chocolate bar. We order 4-5 at a time so we don't risk running out :). Thrive carries them for quite a bit less than the store too!

- Kelly

Perfection

Amazing! Sweet but not too sweet. Just right.

- Mila

Yum

Loved it!

- Haley

Awesome bar!

I love these! I go through at least one every 3 days or so (limiting to 2 squares per serving). Salty and sweet but not too much of either. I highly recommend.

- ANTHONY

More than just great chocolate!

This is great chocolate, start to finish! The flavor is dark and rich, and the saltiness on the almonds balances the mild sweetness of the chocolate perfectly.

What's really impressive is this company's ethos. They've now got my repeat business because of their commitment to the people who harvest and make their chocolate. It's so great to be able to eat good chocolate and not have to feel guilty about where it came from!

- Jennifer Cross

Finally!

I am very particular with my diet and believe it or not, I've been having a hard time finding chocolate bars with almonds that are fair trade and organic. I was ecstatic to come across these because not only to they match my criteria, but they're delicious! They have the perfect blend of chocolate, almonds, and salt. I highly recommend these.

- T. Hart

One of my favorite things

perfect balance of sweet, salty chocolaty goodness! Its a staple in our house!

- tattooedcutiepie

Had to throw it away

I was persuaded by the rave reviews (and the label!), but after two bites, I couldn't take it. It actually made me gag (my friend, too). This wasn't even pretending to be dark chocolate. Too dry and powdery.

- Christine

Favorite Theo Bar

This is my husband's favorite Theo chocolate bar. What's not to like?

- Erin

Strong aftertaste

I'm a dark chocolate bar eater, but this particular brand isn't up to my standard. I like dark chocolate because it has a rougher texture than milk chocolate, and to me, a richer taste.

But this dark chocolate has a really strong aftertaste that's very bitter and not pleasant. To some degree, all dark chocolate has a slight after taste, but this is really strong. It might be the 70% cacao, which is strong, but I can't recommend this as much as I was hoping

- Neto

Good as a vegan chocolate

This is an ideal choice for vegan chocolate lovers like me. It's also Fair Trade certified and has 70% cacao, which makes it much purer dark chocolate than almost anything at my local store. There is that familiar dark chocolate favor, but the salted almonds put this over the top as I've always loved the blend of dark sweetness and salty nuts.

- Nora C.

Scrumptious dark chocolate

I was addicted to Ritter Sport dark chocolate for a long time, but it was too small for the price, so I looked for something more substantive.

Theo makes a responsible and organic dark chocolate that is at 70% cacao, which is much higher than Ritter's cacao level. This is a great dark chocolate. Just bitter enough to be dark, but also a pure chocolate taste, with the sweetness coming from the chocolate and not the added sugar.

- Natalie Collins

Great brand

Theo makes delicious and wonderful chocolate. I love many of their products, but I wasn't a fan of the blend of salt with the chocolate. I think it takes away from the flavor of dark chocolate.

It is great with the almonds though and adds a nice little texture.

- Kim McFaddin

Salty chocolate

Salty dark chocolate is definitely the best. Then adding in some almonds- these bars are to die for.

The salt adds to the flavors of both the chocolate and the almonds, giving you a rich salty chocolate with some crunch and texture in each bite.

- Felicia M

Yummy, Dark Chocolate with Almonds!

I've been waiting for Theo to create a chocolate bar with almonds! The kind at the grocery store checkout doesn't taste near as delicious as the organic dark chocolate with almonds.

The school health resources department had a handout for healthy snacks and this brand of chocolate bars topped the listed. I love my Thrive Market membership because these wonderful dark chocolate bars are cheaper than at the food mart down the street. Another great thing about Thrive, they deliver this and anything else I want right to my dorm!

- R Brown

Great Dark Chocolate Mixture

These have a lovely taste to them. They aren't too dark, so you don't get the bitter taste that some dark chocolates have, but it's dark enough that you definitely get some of the health benefits. The added almond tastes really good with the chocolate though I definitely don't eat up mindlessly snacking on these because the hard bits of almond always come as a "surprise" if I don't watch for them. I like it better that way because it keeps me from sitting down with a bar and eating the whole thing without noticing. Plus, the salting tastes really interesting with the chocolate, and I find that I really enjoy the taste.

- l. Almonstein

Love it!

This is one of the best. I love all of their chocolate bars, but this is by far my favorite. I love the salty taste along with that smokey taste of almond.

Theo's bars are wonderful. Fair Trade, organic, kosher... who could ask for anything more! Eat it alone or with a nice glass of wine!

- Ron W

Great chocolate

Hershey just cannot compare to this. With 70% dark chocolate, it's wonderfully rich and full of antioxidants. I can enjoy the taste and health benefits without a massive amount of sugar and junk ingredients. It's rich, simple, and delicious.
