Power Plant

Power Plant was started by me, Paul Sprangers. I grew up in Red Wing, Minnesota eating a LOT of bacon, beef, and chicken. It wasn't until my mid-twenties that I even considered exploring a vegetarian lifestyle. And it wasn't until I turned 30 that I began to understand the potentially dangerous health consequences of nearly-constant meat and dairy consumption. I'm kindof a dummy that way. I had chronic sinus infections, bad digestion, lethargy, depression. Not an awesome time. I stumbled upon "The Kind Diet," by Alicia Silverstone which lead me to "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Safran Foer and "The Food Revolution" by John Robbins. These books spoke truth to me, and I found that eating a plant-based diet with healthy fats and vegetables was essential to my well being. My sinuses cleared up. My skin cleared up. I had more energy. I was healthier and I got sick way less often. In 2015 I moved to Kimberton, PA and volunteered at a biodynamic CSA which had a banner year for eggplant harvesting. That's when I started making jerky and sending to friends and family. Then I moved to Boulder, CO, found an awesome kitchen share (thanks Salad Ground!), and started making and packaging Power Plant Organic Eggplant Jerky for sale online, at the Boulder and Longmont farmers' markets and Seeds Cafe! But in 2016 I realized my home is California, and in September I moved the business to Los Angeles where we manufacture at Rainbow Acres - a certified gluten-free facility. We are growing at an incredible rate, and it's both exciting and humbling to experience the success of an idea and product that has the potential to benefit all human beings in a small way.
