SOL (Sustained Organic Living)
SOL, or Sustained Organic Living, crafts comfortable, and ethically made, bedding products, including sheets, duvets, mattresses for babies, as well as other associated products like face pillows, back wraps, and bedside pillows. They’re dedicated to making products that feel good and are made the right way, with farmers and factory workers all being compensated fairly for their efforts.
The History of SOL
SOL was founded in 2010 by Vishal Naithani and Sachin Chauhan, two friends with backgrounds in sustainable fibers and a dream of creating textiles in an ethical manner that contrasted with too much of what they saw in the bedding industry. In pursuit of their goals, the two set out to India, looking to partner with a factory that could meet their non-negotiable requirements; including second-party certification from organizations like FLO, GOTS, Oeko Tex and Fair Trade, and of course no use of child labor. Ever. After an exhaustive search that included contacting hundreds of factories and doing an onsite visit to three, Vishal and Sachin found a factory that was a great fit and went to work.
Today, SOL is a thriving company with workers in India, Bangladesh, and the United States. Still, their values have always remained the same.
SOL Company Mission
SOL is all about three things: great, clean cotton, equitable treatment for all of their employees, and an affordable product. Their products use 100% organic cotton that comes from GMO-free cotton seeds. SOL cotton is also grown without pesticides, fertilizers, or dyes and is not processed with industrial solvents, irradiation, or genetic engineering. That cotton is turned into bedding products through a supply chain that emphasizes transparency the entire way, and is good for their workers across America and South Asia.
SOL is also working towards a world where organic, fair trade, cotton can be a feasible purchase for anyone. To slash prices, they cut their markup by as much as half. SOL sees affordability not just as a win for the consumer, but also great for cotton farmers because it encourages an increased interest in organic cotton. What’s more, $7.50 of every purchase goes towards supporting charities ranging from the Children’s Defense Fund to the Fund For Animals.
SOL products meet the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and all of their partners, whether farmers or factory owners, comply with standard laid out by Fair Trade Certified.
