Nutrition of Thrive Market Organic Tomato Basil Tomato Sauce
Like most other fruits and vegetables, tomatoes are great sources of the essential vitamins and minerals that comprise a healthy diet. Each half cup serving of Thrive Market tomato sauce has just 70 calories as well as added protein, dietary fibers, vitamins A and C, iron, and calcium. As just one part of a meal, tomato sauce can help lend nutritional value to your overall plate, especially when topped over wholesome ingredients like zucchini noodles or eggplant. Here’s what you are getting every time you eat this sauce:
- Vitamin C: A single cup of tomato sauce contains about 18.4 milligrams of vitamin C, which is nearly 20 percent of the daily recommended value. Vitamin C is an important component for the formation of collagen, which is used as connective tissue in various parts of the body. It also strengthens the immune system and helps maintain normal brain function.
- Lycopene: Lycopene is a form of antioxidant that is predominantly found in tomatoes. In fact their deep red color is a direct result of the lycopene concentration. Lycopene benefits the body by reducing the risk of cancer, heart disease, and macular degeneration. Tomatoes also contain other types of antioxidants like beta-carotene, which is a strong promoter of eye health.
- Other vitamins and minerals: Although Vitamin C is the most prominent vitamin found in tomato sauce, the fruit also has sufficient amount of vitamins A and K. Vitamin A improves vision (especially in low light situations) while K prevents blood clotting.
Benefits of tomatoes
Other health benefits of tomatoes include:
- Comparative calories: Though tomato sauce does have a decent amount of calories per serving, very little is from fat. That makes it a healthy choice for dieters when given all the options for sauce.
- Heart health: Tomatoes and tomato extracts have been proven to lower cholesterol, prevent unwanted clumping of platelet cells, and provide an excellent source of antioxidants. Out of the 26 most commonly consumed American vegetables, tomatoes and green beans came out on top for their anti-aggregation properties, which keeps the blooding flowing to all parts of the body and reduces the risk for a stroke.
- Fiber: On average, a cup of tomato sauce contains an impressive six grams of fiber. This plant source helps regulate the digestive process and lowers blood sugar and cholesterol, making it an important part of any diet.
The organic tomato sauce difference
Organically grown tomatoes (like the ones in this sauce) have some key differences from the traditional kind you’ll find in the supermarket. Organic foods have to meet all the quality requirements of the USDA National Organics Program, which puts them on a higher grading system. Some of the base qualifications include the lack of pesticides, GMOs, and growth hormones. In general, organic products will have much fewer chemicals and less processing, which makes them a more healthful choice.
Cooking with Thrive Market tomato sauce
Tomato sauce is most commonly used in pasta, but if you are on a low-carb diet or trying to avoid gluten, there are some other creative ways you can cook up this favorite dish, starting with healthier noodles:
- Zucchini pasta: Just chop the ends off a zucchini and use a peeler or spiralizer to cut thin long strand ends. So simple, yet so healthy!
- Black bean spaghetti: A protein wonderkid, these noodles pack in a whopping 25 grams each serving (that’s like eating five eggs!) Plus, their dark color looks super dramatic on a dinner plate.
- Edamame and mung bean pasta: Fettucini noodles go green when made with edamame. The strength of mung bean also cooks to a perfect al dente texture and allows this pasta to hold up to hearty sauces.
- Brown rice noodles: Other than the slightly darker hue, there’s little difference between brown rice noodles and the regular starchy kind. Plus, when slathered in sauce, no one will ever know.
Once you have settled on a noodle, try our seven tips for making the best pasta sauce ever.

As good as homemade!
We usually make our sauce (in huge batches) from scratch but this was offered as a free gift so why not try it right? Wow, we loved it! I immediately put it on the shopping list to have in the pantry. Very flavorful without being overpowering, if I'm eating tomato sauce I want to taste fresh tomato not 12 other ingredients! This is a purchase you will not regret.
- Patricia Ross
I used this for the first time today to make meatball subs. The flavor is amazing! I plan to try it on black bean burgers next. It has a fresh flavor without being overwhelming. This will be my go to sauce from now on.
I don't expect much from a jar of pasta sauce so I was amazed at how tasty this was. I have never had anything from a jar taste as good as this.
I was having an especially lazy night and so dinner was just noodles and this sauce. Nothing fancy. But OMG the amount of flavor and texture and the fact that it was not watery at all made me feel like I was eating something closer to homemade.
I will buy again with my next purchase.
Did I mention how amazing this sauce is?
Because if you're still reading reviews, just stop and buy this. You won't regret it!
This is the best spaghetti sauce, I've ever eaten! I normally buy the popular brand spaghetti and add my own seasoning but this was amazing on it's own! Tastes so fresh plus you can SEE and TASTE the actual vegetables. This is my staple spaghetti sauce and always have one in the cabinet.
Nice bold but not overpowering oregano flavor! Will be using again for sure!

Love This Item
The flavor and texture is awesome. Very light in nature and mixes well with pasta or meats. I won't ever go back to Ragu again!
Really like this sauce. It just showed up the day I had leftover spaghetti, so I used it the next day. It's great. I will order it again.
- Colleen Haley
A good tasting sauce, but it's just too watery. Won't be a repeat buyer.
This is the best sauce ever!!!! It's better than any brand name I've ever had. I'm hooked!!!! Thank you Thrive!
Great sauce for the whole family to enjoy.
I have not found a jarred sauce I like, until now. Wow, it is excellent, so full of flavor and takes like I just made a homemade batch of sauce. I hooked!
I'm Italian so my standards are pretty high when it comes to sauce! I use it in my meatloaf and was expecting the usual tomato-ey, slightly gummy sauce flavor that you typically get from jarred sauce. Boy was I wrong! I could eat this from the jar with a spoon! It was truly delicious, fresh tasting sauce like homemade!! I would buy this again and can't wait to try the roasted garlic.
Just like homemade!!
Ok, I expected the usual jar sauce when I opened this jar. I was using it in my meatloaf, which I've always done, but I had run out of my own in the freezer. So I was expecting "jar sauce." Boy was I surprised!?! This tasted like I had made it myself! And I'm Italian!! I got out a clean spoon three times and took spoonfuls to taste again and again!! It was really good. I thought I would freezer some in a small portion to use in meatloaf again but I loved the sauce here. I won't miss it EVER again!!
Yay- sugar free tomato sauce!
The Thrive tomato sauces are staple items in our house. The Tomato Basil is a personal favorite. It is flavorful, fresh tasting, and has no added sugar. Highly recommend.
tastes like homemade
This is a great tasting basic sauce that is full of flavor. You can taste the garlic and basil yet it is not too overwhelming. It has a nicer consistency then the other jar, it is not as chunky.
Great price for the size
Love this sauce. It is a great staple to have in the pantry for a last-minute dinner.
My New Favorite Pasta Sauce
I'm a pasta sauce snob so usually make my own but like to have a jar on hand for when I'm in a hurry and even at that I end up 'doctoring' store bought sauces but not this one! I did add spicy Italian sausage just to make it more hearty but by itself, this is my new favorite pasta sauce. It has a very fresh taste and the perfect seasonings. I will definitely be keeping this stocked in my pantry. Thanks for a great product Thrive!
just as good as rao's
I was pleasantly surprised that I liked this just as much as rao's. it has a lot of flavor & I love that it is organic. it goes well with just about any pasta. highly recommend if you're a tomato basil lover like me!
Absolutely fantastic, tasty, low sugar content
Great taste and consistency.
Fresh and delicious!
This sauce is very flavorful which makes it a perfect replacement for the more expensive Rao's.
This sauce tastes fresh. Slightly loose texture compared to most jarred sauces. The seasoning level is good, maybe the basil could come through a little stronger. Originally arrived leaking from under the lid, but Customer Service resolved the situation. Would buy again.
Thrive brand organic tomato sauces are the best I've found. They are light and incredibly flavorful. They do not have that thick, acidy, tomato paste flavor or texture. They are perfect, no need to add anything to them.
Love this sauce! Mixed it with browned ground beef and had perfect spaghetti sauce. Have ordered again!
I just found my new pasta sauce! Just the right consistency and sugar free! Great job Thrive!
One of the best, freshest tasting tomato sauces I've ever bought. Will buy it again and again!
I use this for a lot of Italian dishes, even pizza sauce. Yum! Paleo Pizza
Scrumptious for a jarred sauce
Ingredients are nice and clean AND it doesn't have that typical 'jarred marinara' bland taste.
Tried this sauce for the first time and loved it. Great taste and no bitterness like you get with some other sauces. Mild but lots of flavor. I can see myself using this sauce for lots of other dishes.
- Diane Pierce
Love this sauce!
Married to an Italian, jarred sauces are usually anathema in our home. This sauce, however, is a hit on all counts: ease of use, taste, and consistency.
- Maria DP
My husband and I love this sauce. Great ingredients and love the taste. Thank you, Thrive Market!
Has a nice flavor but it was a bit too oily...you could see the oil residue on the jar and while pouring but had a pretty decent oil slick on the surface of the sauce while cooking and eating. As much as I love Olive Oil in sauces and on pasta, I should not "notice" its presence in the sauce to this degree. For the price not nearly as good as Rao's or some other brands but its a good start. May consider buying again. I am glad to see Thrive developing its own brand however and the Coconut Oil is very good.
- T. S.
I am very picky about pasta sauces, but this is excellent! Very fresh tasting. Will buy again!
I'm not one for onions or chunks of tomatoes but this is delicious! I've even used it to make pizza. Awesome job Thrivemarket!!
My family loved this sauce!
The Best Spaghetti Sauce
We absolutely love this spaghetti sauce, so flavorful.
A little thin, but great flavor
I like a thicker sauce so just cooked it down some
This is a tasty sauce. I was really pleased when I didn't have enough home made sauce and had to add this to it. Love that there is no added sugar!!
This is the first review I am writing on here, because this sauce is so awesome! If you like Rao's sauce, you will love this - it tastes just about exactly the same! Plus, the Thrive sauce is Organic, which Rao's is not, AND it's less expensive for a jar that is actually slightly larger! Win win win! Love it.
Tomatoe basil sauce thrive brand
I am over the moon about the taste of this sauce!!! it will definitely be replacing my Fav spaghetti sauce. Thank you!
- Kathy Shann
I love everything about this sauce - it tastes wonderful, love that it comes in a glass jar and the price is fair.
Excellent tomato sauce!
Really good, authentic tasting sauce. For 5 bucks this is my go-to tomato sauce.
Wanted to Love it but....
I really wanted to love this - in house brand, all organic ingredients, great price - and whilst the flavor was good the consistency was far too liquidy and it's far too oily. I use Rao's and sadly this doesn't come close to comparing.
It got my 2 yr old to eat Pasta!
My picky 2-yr old LOVED it.
Loved this sauce. Added mushrooms and a little more fresh basil. Great flavor. My husband even commented on how good the sauce tasted!
I ate this last night with pasta and have to say it is excellent sauce! As close as you can get to home made!
We got this as a free gift and we were pleasantly surprised at how delicious it is!! Tastes like a great homemade sauce! Keep at least one in your pantry :)
It's nice to find some spaghetti sauce that isn't loaded with sugar. I'm not a huge fan of pasta, but this stuff is pretty good.
Best jarred sauce I've ever had!! Will buy again & again & again!
There is an aroma in the kitchen of eating at an ilallian resturant when I make this. Yummy!
Thrives Spagetti sauce
Tastes very good. We usually use Raos but this is a good buy for the price.
Organic Tomato Basil
Love the sauce, need to know if you carry sauce with no salt added?
Great flavor as is but can be added to if you wish.
- elizabeth labombard
Sensitive stomach. This sauce is a tad bland, but that's what i need. Otherwise the flavor is great and the ingredient list is better than I've ever seen in a commercial sauce
This is excellent pasta sauce. Tastes fresh. Great price, too!
I normally make my own sauce but this is definitely a good tasting sauce and good to keep on hand for a quick meal.
I was surprised at how large this jar is. Goes a long way. Served on pizza crust, linguine and a dip for bread sticks. Nice flavor. Kid content
Thrive Tomato Basil
Absolutely delicious! Try it with Quinoa or rice
My husband and I have used the same pasta sauce for years but when this came out and was half the price (and organic!) we thought we'd give it a try. Absolutely delicious! We used it in zucchini pasta as well as regular pasta and love it!
Tastes fresh fresh fresh!
I'm eating it with a spoon. Hands down best sauce ever! Perfection.
This is one of the most delicious pasta sauces I've tasted. The generous amount of olive oil makes it seem home made. The kids loved it, too. Will definitely be buying again.
Traditionally, I make my 2" meatballs for any Christmas or New Years party. I'll throw some in gravy and some in tomato sauce; however, this year I didn't do as much cooking. Still, I got a family request to make a small tray of meatballs with the tomato sauce.
This year, I decided to try the Organic Tomato Basil tomato sauce. I was pleasantly surprised. The moment I opened the lid of the jar, I could smell the sweet, savory aroma of the ingredients. I dipped my spoon in to taste. The flavor was so good that I could have eaten it all by itself. The consistency of the sauce while pouring was that of freshly blended tomatoes. It looked, smelled, and tasted like the home made sauce from my old Italian neighbor. As if that was all, once at the family party, the meatballs disappeared immediately. All night I kept getting questions about the sauce and if I made it myself -- it was "the best sauce we've ever had."
I can't say enough about the Organic Tomato Basil tomato sauce. I am looking forward to making more dishes with this and the other flavors from Thrive Market.
A new pantry staple in our household!
I made spaghetti squash with baked chicken and poured this on top - it was absolutely delectable! The dish had great flavor and I didn't add anything extra. I will definitely be trying this in other dishes.
