What is an EBT card and who qualifies for one?

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is the largest federal nutrition assistance program in the U.S. It provides food benefits to low-income families to help supplement their grocery budgets so that they can afford the healthy food they need. EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) is a system that allows a SNAP participant to pay for food using their benefits. An EBT card works like a debit or credit card: A cardholder’s benefits are loaded onto their card, which they can use to purchase SNAP-eligible food and drinks.

Does Thrive Market accept SNAP benefits?

Thrive Market accepts SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits via EBT cards on all eligible products.

What is Thrive Gives and do I qualify for a free Thrive Market membership?

Through our Thrive Gives program, we donate a free membership to someone in need for every annual membership purchased. If you’re a teacher, nurse, first responder, veteran, student, or family in financial need (including SNAP EBT cardholders), you qualify for a free one-year membership. Click here to apply. 

Which items are eligible for purchase with an EBT card?

The government determines which items are eligible for SNAP EBT, and products at Thrive Market follow those same guidelines. We offer thousands of groceries you can shop with your benefits—look for the “SNAP eligible product” label on the product’s page to see if it qualifies. You can also see the current list of the USDA’s SNAP EBT–eligible food items on their website here.

Can I buy products that aren’t eligible for SNAP EBT with an alternate form of payment?

Yes. You can use your benefits on eligible items and select a secondary payment method (debit or credit card) on other items in the same order. You’ll see which items are eligible for SNAP EBT and be able to select your payment methods at checkout.

Can I check out using multiple forms of payment?

Yes. You can use multiple forms of payment, such as an EBT card and a personal debit or credit card at checkout. Only one EBT card can be used per order.

Can I get free grocery delivery with EBT?

On grocery orders over $49 with your EBT card, you get free carbon-neutral shipping. If you place a frozen order, shipping is free on orders over $120.
