- No growth hormones: USDA regulations state that organic cows can’t be injected or implanted with hormones in order to stimulate growth. In particular, the use of estrogen in conventional dairy and meat products has been linked to early onset puberty in children. And, in adults, there are concerns that the use of recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) may lead to higher levels of insulin-like growth factor (IGF), which has been associated with illnesses such as breast and prostate cancer.
- No antibiotics: Organic cows may not be treated with antibiotics to promote growth or treat disease, which also benefits the consumer of dairy products. Overuse of antibiotics in humans have been linked to increased rates of illness, since some viruses have evolved over time to become resistant.
- Lower risk of contamination: Organic standards for dairy products means a decreased risk of contamination by pesticides, hormones, and fertilizers since organic-raised cows are not exposed to these agents, which are commonly used in conventional feed.
- Less environmental impact: The use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers on grasslands and other crops can wipe out certain forms of microbes, insects, and other forms of life. It is an okay product, what can one expect from boxed mac and cheese.
Not a big fan of the food myself but since my kids ask for it every now and then.....this is my absolute fave. The healthiest I can find without having to make it all myself.

Best Boxed Mac n' Cheese EVER!
Annie's pastas and soups were a huge pantry staple for me ever since I made the switch to organic in college. These are easy to make, have high quality ingredients, and come from a company with formidable integrity in their business practices. I love that they make healthy, organic versions of easy-cook foods for people like me who can only cook the most basic of foods. I've long since graduated and settled down and, luckily for me, my wife is an amazing cook, but I saw that Annie's came out with a grass-fed organic variant on their mac n' cheese and I just had to try it. So delicious, and it felt good in my body. Other boxed macs left me a little clogged up and sluggish, but not the case with these ingredients. The sauce was smooth and creamy and had a very authentic tasting cheese flavor. Now that my wife and I are expecting, Annie's will surely become a pantry staple once again in the near future.
