Teapigs
To enjoy the full flavor profile of tea, there are a few important things to remember. First, focus on water temperature. Some leaves are more delicate than others, so if you’ve ever experienced a burnt aftertaste in your tea, it’s likely the result of charring the leaves while the tea steeps. Also take a look at your tea bags. Tea bags have a lot of benefits—topping the list are the ease of brewing on the go and less cleanup—but opt for bags that give the tea more room to move around. One of the brands that does this element exceptionally is Teapigs. It created something called a tea “temple,” a biodegradable mesh bag that gives whole leaves extra room to infuse.
The History of Teapigs
Louise Cheadle and Nick Kilby—founders of Teapigs—met while working for the same tea company and discovered a shared passion for bringing less popular blends to the forefront. The brand officially got its start in 2006 when they combined Nick’s background in communications with Louise’s 15 years of experience as a tea taster to source incredible teas from around the world.
Teapigs Company Mission
Teapigs wants to get America drinking tea again. Not that it ever stopped, but in the early 2000s, coffee tended to be the beverage of choice for many. To make tea more appealing than ever, Teapigs uses whole leaf tea, herbs, and flowers in its uniquely-designed, biodegradable tea bags, which help retain the tea’s exceptional flavor.
Benefits of Teapigs
Teas are sourced from pesticide-free estates around the world and Teapigs is also a member of the Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP), an organization working to improve tea sustainability worldwide, support smallholder farmers, and protect environments where tea is grown. The English Breakfast blend is sourced from Gisenyi, Rwanda, and is Rainforest Alliance certified. To support this community, Teapigs partners with the Point Foundation, which serves orphans and vulnerable children in the region, by making a donation for every pack of English Breakfast tea sold. The brand also matches donations customers make on its website, and run regular fundraising campaigns throughout the year.
