Reviews For Original Jackfruit
Based on 18 Reviews
This looks like and is textured very similarly to chicken. It does have a faint tart aftertaste as others mentioned, but it seems to just be the flavor of the fruit and it's pretty easy to mask. I made a curry for my first jackfruit adventure, and it turned out pretty good. I think next I will try it with green chilies and black beans and make "chicken" tacos.

We use this product on our vegan Cubano Sandwiches and it is perfect for it!
I love having this on hand when I want to make a healthy meal and don’t have meats on hand. I find I am just as satiated if I had eaten chicken or fish. I will keep ordering this. It’s easy to incooperate in a healthy pasta or rice dish. I’ve been using it with the Thrive Marinara sauce and it’s a winning combo.

I’m a fan.
I had tried a pre-seasoned/sauced jackfruit product by this brand before and didn’t like the taste. I decided to give this one a try and have to say it changed my mind about jackfruit. I rinsed it thoroughly to get rid of all the brine, removed any missed seeds and cooked it as one would carnitas. The result was great and could easily become a staple for my household.

I should first start with the fact that I am not a big jackfruit fan to begin with - wish I was. But sometimes I just want something that has a meaty texture...being vegan, that desire does happen every now and then for me. This particular item allows me to season how I like it - I throw it in a Thrive coconut wrap with some mano peach salsa, sunflower seeds and greens and I am good to go!

I used to be vegan, and even then I do not think I could eat this. The texture is so weird. I had to throw mine out.

Great price for a hard to find product

This is a unique product that has no added ingredients. I wish it was organic, but it’s a great way to get jackfruit without having to break open the real fruit. It tastes great as is, but can also be used as a meat substitute (looks like pulled pork) also!
Pretty good - Convenient!
I was wary about trying this after reading the review, but it was much better than expecting. I didn't have the energy to even rinse the contents as I typically do with jackfruit, and still I didn't find the described "tangy" flavor to be too severe.
The texture of this turned out similarly to other jackfruit I have cooked, and it made for a yummy meal. I think I still prefer canned organic jackfruit, but I will say this was less preparation work and quickened my cooking process - I did not have do any cutting and it was easy to break up in the pan with a spatula.
This package contains a generous portion, much more than I was expecting.

This is the only place I can find unseasoned Jackfruit. I like to season my own and can't find it in any supermarkets, whether it's Whole Foods, Trader Joes or any other local place. This stuff doesn't have any gross flavors. It was fresh and still had the desired texture.

Jackfruit is a perfect vegan alternative for pulled pork! Add cooked onions and BBQ sauce! I liked this before limiting meat and now it's a regular menu item.

I wish the jackfruit had nutritional labeling, but I could find none. It states it has no cholesterol and I normally choose foods with no cholesterol. I fixed this from a previous recipe; chopped peppers, onion, added some shredded carrots and leftover rice, and Korean BBQ sauce, some spices and a tbsp of brown sugar. I put it in a wrap with chopped tomatoes. Absolutely delicious! I like spicy food, and I didn't notice any strange taste. I will definitely buy it again! I sure wish I knew what Jackfruit is tho!
I get what people are saying about the tangy taste it has but I was successful in removing that tang. I chopped up a sweet onion and a red & yellow bell pepper and cooked those down for a few then added the jackfruit and broke I into small pieces. Then I added Korean bbq sauce and some brown sugar and let it cook until the peppers were mostly cooked and the sauce and coated and carmelized everything. I then put them into wraps with some broccoli slaw and it turned out great.

Couldn't cook the jackfruit taste out
I believe this has to do with the liquid that was holding it I couldn't cook out the fruit taste. Will try another brand to see if it was me or this brand.

I was very excited to try this product however I didn't taste this item at all. It wasn't appealing once I opened the package

Okay but tangy
I bought this with extreme excitement to try out something new. I used it in a sticky Chinese sauce over rice. Although it cooked up beautifully there was a really strange tangy flavor that I wasn't ready for and overpowered the sauce I had made. I think next time I'll try marinating it beforehand to see if that helps with the tang.

Not my cup of tea.
Like someone else said, it had a twang that couldn't be hidden. I had a hard time eating it, even with a lot of flavor/seasonings and mixed with other foods.

My first time using Jackfruit, just not sure if I like it.
I have been saving recipes for Jackfruit like mad over the past few months, and was thrilled to find Thrive finally had this without any added flavor. I live in the mountains, and there aren't any local stores that have jackfruit...so I grabbed this when it became available. I used it in a recipe for Potstickers, and found that it comes with a slightly "twangy" flavor that I didn't care for. I might be mistaken, but thought for the most part jackfruit is so wonderful because it soaks up the flavor of seasonings you use - without adding any flavor of its own. I LOVE using hearts of palm for this very reason, but the flavor from this just gave my dishes a slight twang that couldn't be hidden. I hope Thrive Market at some time offers jackfruit in a can, or perhaps another brand, that I can try. In the meantime I will try to find another brand that can be shipped to me.
