Creator Cuong Pham was motivated by nostalgia and wanted to make a fish sauce that tasted like the one he enjoyed growing up in Saigon. So, he revived the traditional method of using tropical wood barrels for slow fermentation and also relies on wild-caught black anchovies from the waters off the island of Phu Quoc to give the sauce its unique flavor. The quality of the fish is incredibly important because it’s one of Red Boat’s main ingredients (the other being salt)

Adding this to Thai & Indian curries and favorite soups

The moment I opened the bottle, I could smell the delicious aroma of the aged fish sauce and the flavor really delivered too. I won't go back to the regular fish sauce after tasting the difference the double barrel aged made. I'm purchasing my third bottle today!

Not worth it

After reading about the Chef's quest for authentic fish sauce, I purchased this expensive version. I too long for the authentic fish sauce that they no longer make nowadays. I was so excited to get this bottle and couldn't wait to cook. As soon as I opened the bottle, I couldn't smell anything. How could this be fish sauce, I ponder. I thought I will put a little more when I cook. There's no effect on the taste either. Immediately, I thought I was duped. So the conclusion: no smell, no taste (not even salty - fish sauce is made from fermenting fish in salt!?!?), no effect on effect on your food. You better off not putting anything in your food and you safe money!
