About This Brand

What is put on the outside of our bodies is just as important as what is put inside of them. Many personal care items such as soaps, lotions, shampoos, and conditioners, are made with harsh chemicals like sulfates and parabens that can be absorbed through the skin and cause endocrine disruption. Luckily, Dr. Bronner’s is a safe, organic brand that provides a number of quality personal care products, all without those harsh chemicals. Dr. Bronner’s legacy Dr. Bronner’s has a long history dating all the way back to 1858 when a German-Jewish family began mastering the craft of soap making. It wasn’t until 1908, however, that they began formally selling their soaps in small batches. Fast forward 20 years later to 1928, and Emmanuel Bronner (third generation master soapmaker) brought his family’s soap recipes to the United States where he launched Dr. Bronner’s. He began by making his soaps at home and packaging them with positive messages to promote inclusion and happiness. By...

Why Dr. Bronner’s is an amazing baby soap brand

Dr. Bronner’s started out as a small German soap-making company 150 years ago and has evolved into what it is today—a full line of socially-conscious and natural personal care products that can be found around the world. Dr. Bronner’s offers everything needed for cleansing, from liquid soap to shaving soap, dish detergent to body lotion, and lip balm to baby products.

The Unscented Baby-Mild Castile Bar Soap (as well as the rest of the brand’s products), don’t contain harmful ingredients like chelating agents, dyes, synthetic fragrances, or bleaches. After all, you wouldn’t want these near your skin, and you definitely wouldn’t want them near your baby’s skin. In addition to possibly causing reactions, these ingredients can prove toxic and even lead to medical complications like asthma or an increased risk for cancer.

Rather, Dr. Bronner’s relies on the healing properties of nature, opting to create soaps and other self-care products from nourishing vitamin E extracted from sunflower seeds and high-quality organic essential oils that moisturize and act as antibacterial agents. One look at the ingredients list on Dr. Bronner’s Unscented Baby-Mild Castile Bar Soap, and you can feel good about using this product for your family.

What is castile soap?

Along with fire, swords, rope, and the super important wheel, soap is one of humanity’s earliest discoveries. No one knows for sure when soap was first created, but it appears to have been in existence in some form since the dawn of civilization.

One of the more prominent (and realistic) theories is that a millennia ago, in either ancient Babylon or ancient Egypt, the fat of cooked meat dripped onto the ashes of cooking fires and workers found the resulting clay-like substance had excellent cleansing properties.

In the centuries since, however, the process of creating soap has become more refined and produces more high-quality products. Castile soap is one example.

Castile soap was developed during the medieval ages in the Castile region of Spain. What makes this type of soap noteworthy is that it uses olive oil (rather than animal fat) along with water and lye to create a powerful cleanser that is better for the environment and completely vegan.

The other safe ingredients in Dr. Bronner’s Unscented Baby-Mild Castile Bar Soap

Dr. Bronner’s baby-mild soap uses organic and fair trade ingredients that are 100 percent vegan and good for the skin. The list includes:

  • Organic coconut oil
  • Organic palm oil
  • Sodium hydroxide
  • Water
  • Organic olive oil
  • Organic hemp oil
  • Organic jojoba oil
  • Sea salt
  • Citric acid
  • Tocopherol

Dr. Bronner's Unscented Baby-Mild Castile Bar Soap offers the magic ratio of coconut oil to olive and palm oil that produces a luxurious, cleansing lather that won’t dry out the skin. Coconut oil possesses medium-chain fatty acids that contribute to the lather, along with the long-chain fatty acids from the olive oil. The palm oil then blends in to create a smooth consistency, creating the perfect trifecta to keep skin hydrated.

Additionally, the jojoba and hemp oils are included for even more moisture; they are most similar to the oils that the skin produces naturally. To top it all off, salt solidifies and preserves the soap and contributes an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin—making it perfect for those with sensitivities.

Other products to use with Dr. Bronner's Unscented Baby-Mild Castile Bar Soap

Make bath time enjoyable for you and baby. Here are a few of Thrive Market’s favorite natural bath and body products to use along with Dr. Bronner's unscented bar soap.

Green Sprouts Wooden Brush & Comb Set

Don’t let tangles lead to tears. With Green Sprouts Wood Brush & Comb Set, you can give baby touchably soft hair. The two-pack grooming set is gentle enough to use on a baby’s sensitive scalp yet able to deal with any tough tangles. After bathing with Dr. Bronner's Unscented Baby-Mild Castile Bar Soap, allow hair to dry for at least 10-15 minutes. Once the excess moisture is gone, start by combing through the ends to get out any big tangles near the bottom. Then work your way towards the scalp, brushing from root to end.

Babo Botanicals Calming Baby Lotion

Made with natural lavender essential oil, this rich lotion has the ability to calm and soothe the body and facilitate a more restful night’s sleep. It can be used anytime, but try applying after a warm bath using Dr. Bronner's Unscented Baby-Mild Castile Bar Soap to nourish the skin with extra vitamins and minerals. And an added bonus: the formula is ideal for soothing adult skin, too.

Green Sprouts Green Muslin Hooded Towel

After baby’s bath with Dr. Bronner's Baby Unscented Mild Castile Bar Soap, make sure to keep him or her warm, dry, and cozy with this muslin hooded towel. It’s made of 100 percent organic cotton and is great for the bath, pool, or beach. While some towels get stiff and thin after one use, this Green Sprouts towel gets softer with each use, thanks to two added layers for extra absorbency.

Bar soap

I love this soap because it doesn't irritate my skin. Plus it's not full of harmful ingredients which is awesome. I just wish Thrive's price was still $2.95 but its $3.45 now.......still cheaper than other places I've purchased it from.

- Jenny Stevens

Love it!

Great soap.

- Alicia

Only body soap I use!

This is by far the best soap out there. It's hemp based and not cluttered with perfumes that can throw off female pH levels. It lathers super quick so it lasts pretty long as far as lux health soaps go. Thrive gives you the best bang for your buck! Trust me, I've bought it at several retail locations and nothing compares.

- Krista

great soap option without essential oils

This is a very fresh and natural product - it feels great on the skin and cleans well. Love using it.

- Jen

Squeaky Clean

Toxin-free and cleans really well. Unfortunately the ph level is too high for me. As a result it left my skin very dry.

- Christine M.

It's the only bar I buy!

I use this for sensitive skin bathing, laundry detergent, in other diy household products. Grates up easily. Sometimes I buy 3-4 bars at once so I don't run out.

- Shelly

Carol

This is nothing like the castile soap bars I've had before. It's soft and has a lard smell. Won't order it again but may try a different variety.

- Carol

Perfect soap

Great unscented soap. I do not like smelling like blue skies a flower or rolling fields. Skin feels soft afterwards as well.

- Margonla

Huge relief for irritated skin

My mom has a host of allergies from perfume and lotions to shellfish and coffee. In regards to the cosmetic side of what she can tolerate, Dr. Bronner's has been a godsend. Many natural soaps we've used in the past either didn't work or were too expensive to maintain regular use. This particular bar soap is perfect for her sensitive skin AND it actually cleans really effectively. It's also mild enough to use on our faces. There's no odor and it's fair-trade, cruelty-free, non-gmo and all the other good stuff you can possibly think of. I recommended it to my little brother who has eczema and the flare-ups went way down after only using it for a couple weeks! It's phenomenal, and it works for shampoo too! I'm currently working on using it for homemade laundry soap and will absolutely be back for more.

Not as mild as expected.

I have tried the Peppermint Castile Soap and it was too strong and drying on my skin. I decided to try the Baby Mild Castile. There was practically any scent but I had a similar reaction to the Peppermint.

I am not aware of having sensitive skin but so far I have only found the Almond Castile to work perfectly.

- P. Greer

Great for Hands and Bathing!

I use this soap in the shower as well as at my hand sink at work. This soap just makes you feel clean! It is comforting to know that the ingredients are natural, Certified Non-GMO and Fair Trade. Using this soap just makes me feel like a more reputable citizen.

My wife uses this soap for our children in the bath tub and for homemade cleaning products. My only beef is that this soap can be expensive if bought elsewhere or alone. $3 for a bar of soap my be a bit much if you also have to pay for shipping. We wait to order until we have a few items to meet the $49 minimum.

Would buy again!

- Johnny Thronton

Good for babies and parents!

We have two kids under two years old. My son and myself have mild eczema and we haven't had any signs of it since we started using this soap. My husband and I both use it and we love the way it makes our skin feel! It lathers on nicely, is very gentle so I am comfortable using it with my infant, and it leaves you feeling refreshed and clean.

I use Dr.Bronners Baby Mild Soap in my homemade laundry detergent, for my toddler in the tub and for many other uses! Excellent soap!
