Reviews For Pine Tar Soap
Based on 16 Reviews
I did not expect the strength of this soap before purchase. Although the smell is VERY strong when lathering in the shower, it subsides once you rinse it off. It keeps my skin clean and clear, with an added 'umph' of a rustic and woodsy smell. I would recommend, but only if you like VERY unrefined smelling soaps.
A singular product
Really enjoy this unique product, one of my favorite natural soaps.
Yes, the soap has an intense, pine-y (not entirely pleasant) smell but there are two caveats here:
1) it's fantastic soap -- deep cleans, doesn't dry your skin, perfect for face or body
2) the smell it leaves after washing is fresh and clean -- much more subtle than the bar alone
One of my favorite soaps, strongly recommended. You will get used to the smell and appreciate how well it cleans!
Outdoorsy/Camp Fire scent
My husband and I love this soap because of its very unique scent. It has an earthy scent that reminds me of a camp fire. Great treat!
Like bathing in a campfire
The smell is strong folks. Hickory campfire with turpentine.
Don't get me wrong. I love camping and campfires. I don't want to bath in them and have the smell on me all day long.

Took me back!
I am one of a few people who like the smell of pungent and different odors. I like skunk (just not too close), marigolds, and Pine Tar Soap among others. It was exciting to find the 'old-fashioned' bars and at a great price. I am positive that the bar will clean well and do everything it is supposed to do, but for me, it is just sitting in the window near my desk (at home) so that when the afternoon sun hits it, the room has the most comforting aroma. It takes me back home to when I was a child.
I don't mean to be a spoil sport about this, but that bar will probably never see the light of day. It is fulfilling this customer's needs in a most excellent way. Thank you and God bless, Charlene
This is my favorite hand soap. I even use it in place of shampoo. Love the smell.
Thought my house was on fire!
When my Thrive box arrived I opened it but got distracted with other things. Next thing I knew my whole house smelled like something odd was burning. I searched around for the mysterious smell thinking there must be a hidden fire somewhere. All be darned if the fragrance wasn't coming from this soap that was in its box that was wrapped in plastic! I couldn't believe the fragrance was permeating the box and plastic. I tried the soap and it was good but the fragrance just never let up. It really does smell like a person who stood way to close to a campfire for several days. I had to send it to my dads home in hopes it doesn't go to waste since it wasn't for me or my home.
Grandpa's Tar Soap -great multipurpose soap!
This soap does all it says it does-and does it well. Cleans and deodorizes better than most bar soaps. Great for shaving and shampooing as well. It does not even dry out the skin like most others. I buy 2 bars regularly - 1 for the house and 1 for the gym bag. I heard it might help with eczema also
Not a fan
It seemed to leave a build up on my hair. It is also a bit drying for my skin, so drying in fact, that I've been using it to dry up some poison ivy I tangled with.
I just ordered two more bars of Grandpa's pine tar soap. It's the way bar soap used to smell in the day before chemical pollutants were put into everything to mask to scent of a human being human.
This soap smells just like a camp fire wearing flannel. It is the best soap I've ever bought.
I bought this for my husband and his skin is so soft now. I love the clean earthy scent <3
Not a pleasant smell
When my husband wanted "Grandpa's pine tar soap" I did not realize it was going to smell as if a grandpa had been dipped in pine and tar and made into soap.
This soap has a very woodsy scent. It is very manly which i like. I use it on a daily basis and have rarely to get a rash or skin ailment. It smells good so I do too after I use it and it doesn't dry out my skin like traditional bar soap would. Really Love Grandpa's soap.

This soap is great. It smells so good. It really is soap from a simpler time. It has simple ingredients and really does the job. I use this when I get rashes or bug bites and it makes them go away, so there must be something healing about it too.

I know that's a big claim but this soap was a miracle for me. I had an itchy rash when I was pregnant that kept me up at night and drove me crazy. When some were suggesting shots and medicines, I was beyond delighted to try this soap and find that this simple and natural (and cheap) solution worked! I thank Grandpa's from the bottom of my heart! PS This soap smells very woodsy!!!
