Why You’ll Love Organic Sesame Tahini
Tahini sounds fun to say, but what exactly is it? While some might pass it off as an obscure condiment with an exotic name, others will recognize it as the ingredient that magically makes hummus complete, or perhaps a major player in the sweet Mediterranean dessert halvah, or even just an easy dip for falafel. The truth is, tahini—a thick paste made of ground sesame seeds—is all this and more.
Once Again Organic Sesame Tahini is a bare-bones recipe made solely with organically-grown sesame seeds, which are hulled and lightly roasted to achieve the creamy consistency. There’s no sugar, sodium, trans fats, or any artificial additives in the mix, which gives the product pure flavor and quality. And when it comes to health benefits, simple usually equals healthy, too.
Why choose tahini?
Nut butters are all the rage these days, and for good reason: They’re delicious and convenient to use. But, unfortunately, some people can’t stomach them due to allergies. That’s where tahini comes to the rescue. Since it’s made of harmless seeds, it doesn’t provoke the allergic reactions that many nuts often do, and it’s actually healthier in some ways. Plus, tahini’s nourishing, peanut butter-like consistency will satisfy any cravings you might have for a nutty spread.
Nutrition and health benefits of tahini
Great news for those who want to start swapping tahini in place of nut butters—you’ll get many of the same nutrients, including loads of these vitamins and minerals:
- Phosphorus, which helps with bone formation and hormone balance.
- Zinc, which boosts the immune and digestive systems and keeps them in optimal condition.
- Magnesium, which helps create strong bones and teeth, and aids the body in absorbing more calcium from foods.
- Potassium, which helps the body bounce back from heart and kidney problems, and eases the symptoms of anxiety and stress.
- Iron, which regulates the development of red blood cells and delivers oxygen to the blood. Iron is important in inhibiting a condition known as anemia, which can cause chronic fatigue and easily bruised skin.
- Methionine, which helps detoxify the liver.
- Calcium, which is also great for building strong bones, and can be absorbed easily in tahini thanks to the presence of other minerals, such as vitamin E (an antioxidant that helps with cognition and keeps the skin healthy and moisturized).
- Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, and B15, which regulate the nervous system, increase metabolic rate, and produce more energy from food.
- Protein, which is essential to nearly every component of the human body (hair, skin, nails, tissues) and also creates muscle tone. Once Again Organic Sesame Tahini has six grams of protein in every two tablespoon serving—more than most other nuts have.
Ways to cook with tahini
Tahini is a rich, highly adaptable ingredient that can do wonders when preparing sweet and savory dishes. Some like to plunge a carrot (or spoon!) straight into the jar and enjoy tahini’s slightly bitter, creamy, and nutty taste all on its own, but the creamy condiment truly rises to the occasion when its rich flavors are used to make a sauce, dessert, or (its most trendy application) hummus.
Tahini is also considered a godsend for gluten-free eaters: Incorporate it into gravies, sauces, or soups as a thickener in place of flour.
Here are some easy ways to incorporate the healthy paste into your diet:
This classic appetizer features cooked eggplant mixed with tahini, onions, lemon juice, olive oil, and seasonings, and then served with pita bread. It can be a hit at parties, potlucks, or any gathering where you want to bring a versatile dish with a little flair.
Ever wondered what the secret ingredient is in those delicious salad dressings often served at Japanese restaurants? The answer is sesame. Make your own version by whipping up a mixture of tahini, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, miso, and coconut aminos. Or, try Thrive Market’s recipe for a sweet tahini dressing that also incorporates honey and tamari.
Blend tahini with garlic, chickpeas, and lemon juice to make a delicious dip for pita and veggies. If you want to upgrade your hummus, also consider flavorful spins on the simple dish, such as this light-as-air cauliflower hummus or antioxidant-rich pumpkin hummus.
This delicious chicken dish is made with a marinade featuring tahini, fresh herbs, spices, and honey. One bite and you won’t need to go back to barbeque sauce.
Although tahini is out-of-this world when served with meat, fish, and vegetables, it’s equally as mouthwatering when used to make a variety of desserts. Make a sweet dipping sauce with tahini, maple syrup, and raw honey or coconut sugar, which you can serve with bread or fruit. For another healthy snack, combine ground almonds, cinnamon, tahini, and dates for a delicious protein ball.
Another easy option is to make the Middle Eastern classic halvah (a.k.a. sesame fudge). Warm two cups raw honey at about 240 degrees Fahrenheit until it gets soft, then turn off the heat. Next, add a half-cup warm tahini, and combine a quarter teaspoon of vanilla extract and a half-cup of pistachios or nuts. Pour into a tin or mold and let cool for several hours in the refrigerator before cutting into squares and serving.

Tahini for less $
I used to buy this tahini at Whole Foods for 9.99. Thank you for the discounted price. It's my favorite because it's in a glass, not a plastic or aluminum, container.
Best hummus maker!
I was paying 11.00 for this in local stores, so this has been yet another time being a Thrive market member has paid off. I buy bulk dried organic garbanzo beans locally, and have made 3 types of hummus with this. The hummus turns out so smooth, you could literally consider it soft serve ice cream. :)
Happy to find this!
I would give this 5 stars but it isn't raw. Otherwise it's great stuff and I love that it comes in glass and very easy to stir.
Pure sesame seed paste, cheaper from thrive than on eBay1
Mixed with coconut aminos and hot sauce, makes a great Asian style sesame sauce for zoodles. On a whim when friends were over, threw some in the nutribullet with a can of chickpeas, lemon, some spices, and a tablespoon of harissa. My friend who is a fine food wholesaler and used to work for sabra said it was the best hummus he has ever tasted. This tahini is great.
this is the very best tahini I've used. A little goes a long way. It's really good as an ingredient in the preparation of hummus and it's also good plain on toast.
Makes excellent hummus!
Not as good as Kevala
This is an OK tahini, but in making phat fudge, which is almost half tahihi, the Kevala brand tastes way better. Maybe thrive could carry it...
My first go with tahini and I can honestly say it's a two thumbs up! Last night I made a salad with roasted veggies, and made my dressing with olive oil, lemon, salt/pepper, and this tahini. The tahini's savory flavor was the perfect compliment to light veggies!
ordered second time this item.
I add this to soups and casseroles for it's health benefits. A little goes a long way!
one of the best
in the U.S. tehina choices, bar none !
Organic Sesame Tahini
This product is great quality but loses a lot of flavor with no sugar or salt. Great for smoothies, but if you need the 'taste' I'd go with another brand. Too bad they only sell one brand at Thrive.. hint hint
Works great for hummus
It is a bit expensive, but it really does work great for hummus. I like it better than other brands I have tried that are a bit more watery than this one. I store it in the fridge like I would natural nut butters.
used this to add to a salad dressing...great taste and yummy smoothness!
- AJ Sharon
Love my tahini dressing and since it is in glass it is probably better than Joyva Tahini in a can
Made my first traditional hummus and black-bean hummus for my daughter's brunch baby shower. Received nothing but compliments on both dishes and everyone was asking where I got the tahini! Highly recommended!
- Mary Lou
This makes a great addition to a mustard, apple cider vinegar salad dressing. Store the bottle upside down to help with the separation problem.
This is a lovely product. Since we have been experiencing unusually warm weather, the tahini has become so soft and needs extra stirring. Occasionally refrigerate, to harden.

Great Taste and Smooth Consistency
I use this regularly especially to make creamed kale and it never disappoints.
Awesome tahini! Made the best hummus and babaganoush with it! Looking to make some cilantro lime Tahini dressing next!
I really like this Tahini! It tastes great and I use it to make homemade hummus!
great for creamy vegan salad dressings
Great flavor and mixes very well with most vinegars and oils for a rich, creamy, dairy free dressing!
I have had better
This is only the second brand of tahini that have purchased. I was a little disappointed in the that the flavor was not as good as the other brand that I had purchased. Still good but I did not have the urge to eat it straight from the jar like I did with the other.
Not as buttery as I expected.
I eat almond butter and cashew butter quite frequently. I am a fan of hummus and heard this was what was used in making it. Unsure of what it would taste like, I decided to try it and see if it could be another butter to add to my pantry.
I was surprised to find that it did not contain sugar, salt or carbs. The flavor was pleasant...less nutty, yet had a toasty essence. Contrary to my assumption, the texture was more pasty then buttery. I have yet to explore the uses of Tahini. So far, my toast has been satisfying.

Superb, 5 stars!
I mostly use tahini for hummus and falafels, but I also use it for frying. Instead of dipping my fish or chicken in egg, I mix some tahini with lemon juice to thin it a little bit and dip the fillets in that mixture before covering them with panko crumbs. It imparts a subtle nutty flavor and it's a little less icky to work with than raw egg.
For my hummus, I love the strong sesame flavor and it's got a smooth, creamy texture and I find that the bitterness is a little less than other brands I've used.
I like to put a little tahini in my falafel mix and when they're all fried, I'll just slather some of the tahini in a pita and stick the falafel right in. It's so good and this sauce is really flavorful! I'm also pleased that they don't add any salt or sugar or preservatives, and I can definitely taste that the sesame seeds were toasted before being pureed, super-delicious!

Great But Not The Best
This is one of the best sauces I have had just not the best. I used it mixed with garbanzo beans to make a really yummy humus. The texture is great and it's not to oily or extra chunky. Not as bitter of other tahini sauces I have used.
The reason that they gave 4 stars was that jar was a little hard to keep sealed. I just feel like maybe the lid should have a piece of rubber in it.
- Joyce Ward
Great for hummus
I love this product! I used it in a hummus recipe and it was wonderful! Both the texture and taste were just about perfect. It's also great as a peanut butter replacement, I have it on my bagel or toast every once in a while and it's delicious. I will most definitely be purchasing this jar from now on, especially because it is non-GMO verified.

The best tahini I've ever had.
No joke. I've been making hummus for a long time (20 yrs or so). This is by far the best tahini I've ever bought. It's really full-flavored, super spreadable (if you need that) - even kept in the fridge for a couple of weeks, it will drip off a knife. I used it in a recipe but finally tasted it alone. This stuff really is the best.
This is the only tahini I will buy from now on. It tastes so much fresher and pure than other brands I find at the supermarket. The price is better here, too, so that's a win.
A little thick
This is more pasty than a butter, but still tastes good. I like to use it in hummus. I also have found uses for it in baking, giving some breads and muffins a great sesame flavor.
I don't buy this often, but it is a good addition in any healthy kitchen.
- Lou Winder
This product tastes great. It has zero net carbs, no added salt or sugar.
I use it as a replacement to my butter. It has a really good sesame see taste and it tastes wonderful on everything bagels.

Good Butter But Difficult to Spread
I eat a lot of various nut butters aside from peanut butter, and this is an interesting brand. It tastes pretty good, and I enjoy the taste of it on a wheat bread sandwich. At the same time, it's actually a lot thicker than most nut butters I've tried, so it can be pretty hard to smooth onto the bread without destroying the bread in the process. I've found that placing it somewhere warm temporarily (a warmed stove, for example) helps it spread a whole lot more smoothly.
I just had to try this
A lot of gluten free crackers are being made with sesame sees and I have grown kind of fond of the flavor. I decided to try this out since it is made from sesame seeds.
While normally with nut butters that aren't peanut butter I quickly get used to the idea of eating them as a spread. It did take me a whole jar to get used to sun butter. This I am still unsure about. I kind of like the flavor, but I have yet to find the perfect item for eating it on!

A little too tart
I enjoy a good tahini, especially in salad dressing and hummus. But Once Again's version is a little too sour and acidic for me.
I know it's all-natural, but I just find the taste a bit overpowering, even when mixed with other ingredients. I do appreciate it being no sugar and low in saturated fat.
Hard to find but great
I enjoy Once Again's tahini a lot. I'm a caterer, and I use it for hummus and other exotic dishes, but it's very hard to find. Amazon only offers third party vendors who charge outrageous prices for this product.
That's why I became a Thrive member. I get a lot of stuff on discount, and hard to find products are usually available here. Thank you Thrive for caring about healthy products that aren't brand names.

Hummus and spread
I use several Once Again products, but really love this one the most. I use it for hummus, and since it's all natural, there's no additives or sugar.
It also works as a spread on crackers or bread, though it's pretty strong, so drizzling some raw natural honey on top can cut the tartness quite a bit.
- Nicole Higgins
This is by far the most excellent Tahini I've ever tried. I've tried a lot of different brands. It's great on crackers, fancy toasted bread, next to a cheese and pita point's platter. I also use it in my homemade hummus.
The only ingredient is sesame seeds. That's it, nothing more. Once Again brand has done the impossible, delicious Tahini from milled sesame seeds!
- Toby Colon
great butter to add to food
Tahini is a great butter to add to food. Sometimes it separates, but you just have to mix it up and always refrigerate it. It makes a great spread for bread or to add to humus. I mostly use it as a spread. Tastes really good too.
- Homer Cortez
Yummy! Great for hummus!
This is the tahini I always by to use in my hummus or anything else that calls fro tahini. Really good taste and the price on Thrive is great!
- Rachael Davis
This is incredibly natural tahini, with nothing but sesame seeds. No salt or sugar. It has a nice taste too.
