About This Brand

Kathleen King, founder and owner of Tate's Bake Shop, began baking when she was just eleven years old, selling small batches of her crisp, buttery chocolate chip cookies off of a fold-out card table on North Sea Farm, her parents' Long Island farmstead. In 1980, when she was only 21, Kathleen rented a space her mother spotted and opened her first bake shop. She developed a full line of traditional American baked goods, perfecting every recipe herself and baking each dessert from scratch. Named after her father, Tate's Bake Shop is the result of Kathleen's love of baking and keen eye for quality. Voted the Best Bakery in the Hamptons for many years, Tate's Bake Shop is a destination for locals and tourists alike. Kathleen's personality is in every inch of the store, from the fresh flowers to the carved wooden tables. "People feel very comfortable coming here," Kathleen says, "and that's part of the experience of coming to Tate's Bake Shop. It just goes with chocolate chip...

About Tate’s Bake Shop

Kathleen King, founder of Tate’s Bake Shop, discovered her passion for baking when she was a mere eleven years old and for years sold batches of her crisp, buttery cookies from her parent’s Long Island farmstead. By the age of 21 opened her first brick-and-mortar shop that was devoted to traditional American baked goods that were made from scratch. King not only has a deep passion for baking, but she holds her bakery up to the highest standards of quality and uses the freshest ingredients around. This translates directly into her line of baked goods, which includes cookies, blondies, pies, crumb cakes, and more. Tate’s Bake Shop is located in the Hamptons right outside of New York City, but don’t worry about racking up the car odometer since these delectable treats can be purchased online.

The history of chocolate chip cookies

The chocolate chip cookie is a true American tradition, however, what most people don’t know is that it was created by woman named Ruth Wakefield as an accident. Wakefield worked as a dietician until her husband bought a lodge in Massachusetts, known as the Toll House Inn. She would cook and serve food to the guests that stayed there, becoming especially known for her mouthwatering desserts. One day while making cookies she had run out of baker’s chocolate, but instead of throwing out what she had started, she substituted the recipe using a semi-sweet chocolate bar. Normally, baker’s chocolate will melt and mix into the cookie batter evenly, but a chopped up chocolate bar will not. In this case, the small chocolate pieces melted, becoming soft and gooey, and created a wonderfully sweet chocolate chip cookie. This one small decision might not have seemed like a big deal at the moment, but it forever changed the course of cookie history and has remained a staple in most dessert cookbooks.

The secret ingredient for gluten-free cookies: rice flour

Glance through the ingredients list for Tate’s Bake Shop Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies and what will be found are expected items, such as semi-sweet chocolate chips, butter, cane sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Although, what really sets these apart from other chocolate chip cookies is that they’re made with rice flour and taste just as delicious as cookies with wheat flour.

The big benefit of using rice flour is that it’s gluten-free, giving people who can’t eat gluten the option to enjoy chocolate chip cookies such as these! Those who suffer from gluten intolerance or celiac disease experience symptoms of discomfort such as irritable bowel, abdominal pain, and bloating after consuming products with wheat. Since there is no cure, the only option is to avoid gluten altogether and opt for foods that use a different kind of flour, other than wheat.

Rice flour, as one may guess, comes from rice that gets finely ground into a powder. The rice is rinsed and soaked anywhere from three to six hours, and is then drained, dried, and blended until it is powder-fine. It then goes through a heating process on a skillet to remove any moisture, resulting in delicious, soft flour that is perfect for baking.

What to enjoy with Tate’s Bake Shop Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies

Cookies are always a delicious and indulgent treat, but who says they can’t be paired with other tasty offerings? Here are some other tasty bites to try with Tate’s Bake Shop Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Avocado Chocolate Mousse

Chocolate mousse and chocolate chip cookies—what a heavenly combination of textures with rich chocolatey flavor. This dairy-free version of mousse is perfectly creamy from the avocado, while the cacao powder and vanilla extract give it an irresistible flavor. Agave syrup adds just the right amount of sweetness, making it a delightful pair for Tate’s Bake Shop Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies. Thrive Market recommends serving this chocolate mousse in a bowl and enjoy using Tate’s cookie as a makeshift spoon to dip in this delicacy.

Breakfast Ice Cream

This recipe is certainly appropriate for breakfast (yes, really) but it’s so delicious that it can be enjoyed as a mid-day snack or dessert. Luckily this ice cream isn’t loaded with a bunch of sugars or artificial ingredients. In fact, it’s only made up of bananas, almond milk, and cinnamon! Scoop a little bit of this ice cream onto one cookie and sandwich it with another, making a memorable and mouthwatering combination. The cinnamon helps to bring out the decadent chocolate, while the almond milk and banana partner well with the crispy texture of Tate’s cookies.

Coconut Ice Cream With Raspberry Swirl

Craving some bona fide ice cream? Then whip out the ice cream maker for this one! Raspberry and chocolate are a match made in heaven, but what makes this cold sweet dessert so great is that it’s completely dairy-free and made from rich coconut cream, giving it a silky texture and tropical flavor. Taste the difference with the refreshing strawberry jam, which gives it a bit of tartness and plays perfectly with the the satisfying Tate’s Bake Shop Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Chocolate-Pear Smoothie

Fresh pears and chocolate are a classic combination, and they have recently joined forces in this wonderfully energizing smoothie. Filled with almond butter, chia seeds, dates, and almond milk, this undeniably rich and creamy beverage will pair perfectly with Tate’s Bake Shop Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies. Enjoy the sweet mixture of textures as an afternoon snack or as dessert!

Pacific Foods Organic Vanilla Unsweetened Almond Beverage

Let’s face it, nothing beats a delicious cookie dipped in milk. Although, instead of using cow’s milk or soy products, try this delicious nut milk with mild flavor and ample nutrition. With hints of vanilla that are slightly sweet and subtle, drinking regular milk will not be missed! Serve it cold and right from the fridge with one of Tate’s Bake Shop Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies or to take it to the next level, heat the cookies in the microwave for 10 seconds to get that fresh-out-of-the-oven temperature!

Crispy buttery tasting goodness

If you love crispy cookies that are gluten free, then Tates is the one. My favorite go-to cookie when I want something sweet and crunchy (which is often)/

- Kyna

Just As Described!

These cookies are crispy, thin and buttery just as the packaging states; however, they are just not for me. I don't mind them, it just that my taste buds prefer something different.

- Renee

Wow...My Eyes Have Been Opened

I admit it, I was weary to try these cookies. In my experience, gluten-free equates to plywood tasting crap food and FORGET about finding delicious tasting sweets! Woe is me, right? Wrong! Tates Bake Shop Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies opened up a whole new world for me!!! Crisp, chocolaty and awesome deliciousness delivered right to my front door - and at a very reasonable price to boot! These are very, very good cookies. That's the pro. The con is that it can lead you down a road of sin and enter into this wonderful eating experience with lots of willpower. If, like me, you've been sadly disappointed by the sweet gluten-free offerings out there, look no further than these amazing cookies. Seriously. Good. I HIGHLY recommend them!!! Now I have to go - it's time to eat another cookie while I order some more...

- Elizabeth McComas

This is the brand of cookie that is suggested as the main ingredient for Ina Garten"s Icebox cake. It really makes the recipe. Now my gluten free guests can enjoy it too.

I always buy these for my husband and I rarely get a single one. He devours these cookies. They are perfectly crisp, just the right amount of chocolate chips, and taste just as good as their gluten-filled counterparts.

Best GF cookie brand

I love these light crispy and satisfying cookies! Every GF cookie I have had from Tate's has been delicious!

- Teri

Nice and Crispy

If you don't bake your own these are a good substitute. They have a nice crispy texture and lots of chocolate chips. They do have a bit of an after taste. Frankly, I prefer making my own using GFJules cookie mix but these definitely do when I am too lazy to do that.

- Corinne

My eleven year old and myself think these are the best cookies EVER! Never thought baking without wheat flour could be so scrumptious. Light, crisp, sweet. Excellent.

- Resa

If you hadnt told me they were GF I wouldn't have known. These were probably the best chocolate chip cookie I have had. Crisp buttery perfection.

- Chelsea

These were tasty, but hard to ship! They got to me all broken and quite melted. So if you live in a hot state, I would recommend not getting these right now. We did eat the bits and they were good and crunchy.

- Karen

Best Cookies EVER

I have a severe sweet tooth and giving up baked goodies has been the most difficult challenge with going paleo. THESE cookies don't taste even remotely paleo, they are thin and crispy and delicious. LOVE THEM!

- Aggi

- MaryBeth

great substitute

We are missing having great cookies since we have gone gluten free. These cookies are crunchy and have the gritty mouth feel that is common with GF baked goods. They taste good and are great dunkers ! I will buy them again

- Linda

These are soo delicious, they will be a regularly ordered item for me!

- Amy

Better out there

I tasted both the GF and regular recipes on the same day. Sadly, GF just doesn't hold a candle, and I normally love GF recipes. Also, half of my cookies arrived broken. If you need a GF, ready made cookie - there's better elsewhere.

- Emily

Man, I love these cookies!

Nuff said!

- Lorrie

Crunchy goodness

So yummy I wil buy again

- Connie

Holy Moly!

Wow! These are the best Chocolate cookies Ever! This is the first time I've liked Anything gluten-free. What a Perfect surprise! And a dozen cookies for less than $4 is fantastic, too.

- Bodil

Our favorite

The best gluten-free cookie we have found.

- Julianne

Tasty crisp cookies

At first we didn't think we would like these as they are crisp and we usually prefer chewy cookies, but we were pleasantly surprised by the flavor and the creamy chocolate. Texture of the cookie was great, which can be a problem sometimes with gluten free products. We will buy these again.

- Alison

I bought these for my 4 year old son who has celiac. I was placing a big order and let him scroll through for a special treat he wanted. OMG these taste so good!!! they are sort of crunchy but lots of chocolate. we finished the whole bag the day my order arrived. definitely does not taste gluten free. inside the bag is 2 bags individually wrapped. in the off chance you don't eat them all the first day, 1/2 will remain fresh.

- Amanda

Tasty but broken pieces

Very tasty. Didn't get a single intact cookie though

- Emily

So good!!

I love these gluten free cookies! They are crispy, buttery, and you don't miss the gluten at all!

These are a crunchy cookie with a rich chocolate flavor! I love them and this is the best price I've seen!

- Donna

Crispy and delicious!

I didn't expect such a crispy cookie! These by far are better than any store bought GF cookies I have bought!

- Donna

These are the best gluten free cookies that I have had. They taste great and they are light and crispy, but I found them a bit too sweet for my taste. They are not organic and contain GMO's, so I probably won't be buying these that often.

- Danielle

Absolutely wonderful. You can taste the freshness. What a great treat--just like out of the oven! Will absolutely purchase again.

- Heather

Tate's are great!

I bought these for my nephew who has autism and is on a gluten free diet. They are outstandingly yummy! I highly recommend themz

- Maria

Omg I absolutely love these cookies! They are good for a quick munchie item. The chocolate chips are so soft, the cookie is pretty crunchy but it doesn't take away from how delicious they are!

- Audreanna

We can't stop eating these!

I order a few bags every time and we just can't keep them around! SOOO good!!!

- Amelia

Crispy heaven!

These cookies are not your soft bake, but they offer an exciting take on a chocolate chip cookie. Crispy, crunchy, sweet goodness. I will be buying more of these.

- Jennifer

These are crispy, crunchy and totally awesome.

- KB

Great cookie and a bonus as gluten free.

- Mike

You would never know they were gluten-free. Crispy right from the oven taste and feel!

- Carol

Best chocolate chip cookie you didn't make at home.

- Julia

Better than homemade

These gluten free chocolate chip cookies have a very special flavor. Nice and crispy and delicious.

- Julianne

These are the best gluten free cookies I've ever had! They have a rich, buttery taste that seems to melt in your mouth. They don't have the typical gluten free flour taste. I'll definitely be ordering these again!

- Les

I loved these cookies! The closest store that sells these is over 50+ miles away and sell for $8.50 a bag...glad to see I can get a steal on them here and also help people eat in return :)

- Nanci

Perfect for after school snack or a chocolate fix! But I dare to try and only eat one!

- Jennifer

My one indulgence!

Okay, this is the one treat I make sure I always have around the house. Everything in moderation. These would fall in the few times a week at most. I love that these are gluten free. The taste? Let's just say they are addictive. So if you have no self control then these are not recommended.

- Diana

I like these cookies. They do not taste like other gluten-free products I have tasted.

- Pleshette

Great tasting. Nice texture. Very Very Good

- Donnaj

Too Good

The only problem with these is that we keep eating them. These are thin, delicious, home cooked tasting cookies! We love these!

- Anne

Great cookie. I couldn't stop eating them.

- nan

Too addictive

These totally satisfied our cookies craving. Not the best cookies ever, but definitely very good.

- Margaux

I'm not a cookie person, but my husband absolutely loves these. They are thin and crunchy and they have a decent amount of chocolate in them. A bit too sweet for me, but if you like thin, crunchy sweet cookies, go for it! I had them with coffee and the chocolate inside melts nicely when you dip them in the hot coffee.

- Mila

my favorite!

the best gluten free cookie on the market!

- kathy

crispy chocolate and butter melting in your mouth cookies

I loved these cookies. I don't usually like cookies too much. but these were so light and the chocolate was melting in my mouthxxx

- Marjolein

These are the best. Cookies. Ever.

- Kerri

Tate's "Gluten Free" chocolate chip cookies

My God! These aren't the usual "gluten free" fare. These cookies are incredible for ANY non-homemade baked cookie! My wife hid them from me and them couldn't find them...yeah, right.

- Gary

These cookies do not taste like they are gluten-free. They are crispy and buttery, and made with quality ingredients that are worth the indulgence!

- Kristen

literally the best cookies i've ever had

These are delicious & crunchy!

- Lauren

Tate's. The best

Love them!

- Mae

These cookies deserve ten stars! These are crispy, crunchy, delicious chocolate chip cookies! The bag has two individually sealed containers, which is good not only to keep them from breaking, but keeps me from eating the whole bag. If you like your cookies soft, these are probably not your bag.

But if you're like me and like your cookies crunchy, you will be addicted to these! Oh, and they dip fairly well in coffee, you just have to eat it quickly!

- Elijah Lopez

You'd never know they're gluten-free!

After being diagnosed with celiac disease, I didn't think I'd find a gluten-free snack of this caliber, and I've tried TONS of gf items, many horrible. They do NOT taste at all gluten-free. My parents, aunt, brother, and husband had some without knowing they were gluten free and are absolutely hooked! These cookies are sweet, crunchy, buttery, and full of delicious chocolate chips. Now Thrive just needs to get Tate's other gluten-free flavors - double chocolate, 'ginger zinger', and 'chipless wonder'. Note - if you don't like crunchy cookies, just open one or both packages inside the bag. Wait a day or so, and you will have incredibly delicious, moist, chewy cookies. I actually prefer them this way!

- Jennifer

I am so happy to have found these on here! I tried them once before from a random shop and they were the best tasting cookies ever! Not to mention GF! If you love crunchy cookies, these will not fail you!

- Thrive User

Absolutely incredible! I've been looking for a few good gluten free products to give to my mother and this is now on the list! <3

- Kimberly

- Di-

Truly extraordinary!

These cookies are AWESOME! Without a doubt, they are the best gluten free cookies I have tasted. They are thin, buttery, and a good bit crunchy. Each cookie has a generous amount of chocolate chips. Buy them... I don't think you'll be disappointed.

- Steve

Am I in Chocolate chip cookie heaven?

oh, yes I am! Incredible. The most like homemade I've ever had. Absolutely worth the "cheat." (I'm diabetic) I feel like they deserve no less than 20 stars & paeans of praise. Way to go Tate's!

- Diana

Amazing cookies!

- Nancy

buttery crispiness, melt in your mouth goodness!

- Lisa

Thrive's price is fantastic

I love these cookies. They are thin and all natural, very low in fat per cookie and only 6 grams of sugar each one. And because it's organic, the sugar isn't artificially source.

I can't believe the price on Thrive compared to Amazon. I'm saving a few bucks per bag on Thrive, which is why I love being a member. It's a great alternative to the giant online sites. I've found so many items that are on discount. Love what Thrive is offering right now.

- Irving S.

Tasty gluten free snacks

There's not a ton of flavorful gluten free cookies out there. So when I saw these from Tates, I had to try them.

They're made from rice flour and they have a nice crispy texture and full chocolate chip flavor. They're not as decadent as real chocolate chip cookies, but they're really close. And they're much more guilt-free than those cookies.

- Isabel Silva

Daughter Loves Them

My daughter had to switch to a gluten-free diet to settle her stomach problems, and we've had the hardest time finding new foods for her to eat. These are pretty crispy cookies with a unique taste that actually compares pretty well to the old chocolate-chip cookies we used to buy! Surprisingly, the chocolate chips are actually even softer and more melty than the older gluten-filled cookies we used to buy. My daughter ends up asking for these all the time (of course, because they're cookies), but I'm just glad that we found an acceptable gluten-free cookie replacement.

- Alice W.

Crispy and delicious

Normally I prefer chewy cookies, but I have to say I love these cookies!

These are among the best gluten-free cookies I've ever eaten. They definitely don't taste gluten-free!
