Grass-Fed Bone Broth Is Thrive Market’s New Recipe to Help Combat Food Waste

Last Update: September 28, 2022

When vegetables go limp in the crisper drawer, they’re often tossed into the bottom of a plastic garbage bag. It might not seem like a big deal in your own kitchen, but statistics from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency tell a different story: Americans waste 133 billion pounds of food each year! That means 40 percent of the entire supply chain goes uneaten.

At Thrive Market, we’re mindful of the impact food has on our environment, economy, and overall health, which is why we’re so excited to introduce a brand new product—rich, nourishing, grass-fed bone broth.

It’s not only filled with organic ingredients (more on that below!) but the idea for the product itself developed organically, too. When we discovered one of our amazing brand partners had excess beef bones available, Thrive Market saw an opportunity. “If we can create something amazing out of a product that would otherwise get thrown away, it’s a win-win,” says Jenna Giordano, who heads up our product line.

Here’s a look at what makes this bone broth unique, plus tips on how to enjoy it.

Stewards of the land
We work with farms that have sustainable, holistic farming practices, like rotational grazing methods. For example, after cows graze on the grass, the sheep and goats eat the weeds and chickens peck at the grubs and insects. The soil is naturally fertilized this way, and brims with life.

Cooked low and slow
Thrive Market’s bone broth is slowly simmered for 24 hours, maximizing the collagen and nutrients extracted from each ingredient.

High-quality ingredients
Our bone broth is made from whole food ingredients including organic vegetables and herbs (celery, carrots, and parsley), apple cider vinegar, bay leaf, water, and the bones from grass-fed cows, of course. There are no preservatives, artificial ingredients, or additives—just pure bone broth ready to be sipped or stirred into your favorite dishes.

Brimming with nutrition
Feel good from the inside out! With each sip, you’re ingesting nutrients like collagen, calcium, potassium, and vitamin A, plus other essential amino acids like glycine.

How to use it
Bone broth makes a nourishing base for stews, soups, and more—try it in lentil soup, risotto, or beef and broccoli stir fry to get started. You can also use broth in place of water when cooking grains like rice or quinoa. But you don’t need a recipe to enjoy this broth! Sip a cup of warm broth as part of your daily routine, or try infusing it with Asian flavors like ginger and lemongrass.
