Over the years, Redmond’s reputation grew, allowing the brothers to purchase land from their neighbors, which had salt deposits that extended several thousand feet below the earth. Their salt deposit, the result of prehistoric volcanic activity that encased an ancient seabed, provided a naturally-balanced mineral salt that local ranchers credited for healthier herds.
