The word tantra, for most adults, conjures up some provocative images in the mind.
As suggestive as it seems, the true meaning of tantra has become obscured by the New Age movement of the 1970s. Yet, attempting to peel away the layers of the term can bring up some pretty esoteric definitions.
While we won’t dive deeply into all of those here, the most interesting takeaway is that tantra is not actually all about sex—counter to what sensational magazine headlines have led us to believe for decades. Simply put, it’s about “weaving” the mind, body, and spirit together so that your whole being is totally in sync with the surrounding world. When you get on this level, limitations—and even inhibitions—are less likely to hold you back. No wonder tantra became synonymous with sexual exploration.
For would-be yogis, tantric meditation can be totally liberating—not just in the bedroom, but in life in general. You’ll feel super relaxed and open to all possibilities—no more self-sabotaging. Get out of your own way and press play for a guided meditation that will make you feel seriously blissed out.
