Tell us about your family.

I’ve been married to my wife for 12 years. We’re living and loving life in Portland, Ore., where I treat and manage veterans the way I wanted to be treated. In our free time, my wife and I love to hike and spend time outdoors.

Tell us about your time serving our country.

I served in the U.S. Army from December 2002 through April 2003. I was stationed in the states at Fort Campbell, Ky., and had two tours: one year in Iraq (Tikrit area) and one year in Afghanistan (Khost province).

How has your experience in the military changed your perspective?

My time in service has shaped me into the person I am today and has given me a very specific goal in life. When I left the service, I didn’t believe I had post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) until a few years after being out. I ended up talking to a psychologist for a VA assessment. He asked me questions that I wasn’t prepared for. I walked out of that appointment thinking, “I do have PTSD.” I spent some time being treated by the VA and wasn’t getting the results I wanted so I did a lot of reading and research. At this point, I had finished graduate school and became a chiropractor. I came to the conclusion that myself, and many other veterans, are being treated for PTSD when they should be treated for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). I found a practitioner, Dr. Mark Gordon, and started treating my TBI, and have never looked back. Now, I’m treating patients in the same manner, and I have a new goal in life: providing others with the treatment that I wanted to receive.

How will you be commemorating Veteran’s Day this year?

By living my life in the fullest way, because others can’t.
