Other than a slight hitch in his step, you wouldn’t be able to tell what Derek has gone through.
You wouldn’t imagine that he’d been comatose for two weeks after becoming the victim to a random attack that landed him in the hospital. That when he woke up the right side of his body was partially paralyzed. That, ten years later, he still has seizures from the traumatic brain injury he received during the incident.
“Our health and well-being is so important to me,” his wife, Nadia, explains. “And eating good food, that’s affordable, is necessary for us.” Once we found out they lived in Los Angeles, we knew we had to meet Derek and Nadia in person. Press play to hear their inspiring story:
Derek and Nadia are just two of the thousands of Thrive Gives members that rely on Thrive Market for healthy, wholesome, and affordable products—and we’re so honored to be able to help them. With every Thrive Market membership that’s purchased, we donate a membership to a family that needs it. And with our new Spread the Health program, members can donate a portion of their Thrive Market savings at the checkout page directly to another member. Yep, whether you contribute $1, $5, or $50, 100 percent of that donation goes directly to helping members who qualify for the program buy groceries.
Your membership helps someone else access healthy food—and that’s how we can all Thrive together.
We believe that everyone deserves the right to access healthy food. But even in the United States, it can prove impossible for some families. So we created Thrive Gives: a program that gives access, family by family, to affordable, healthy, and wholesome food. Click here to see if you qualify for a free Thrive Gives membership!
