Our body rarely shies away from letting us know when it’s hungry. Rumblings arrive as we wake each morning, signaling it’s time for breakfast. In the middle of a meeting nearing the lunch hour, our stomachs growl, reminding us to eat. If we’re stuck in traffic on the way to dinner, we might distract ourselves by imagining all the appetizers on the menu.
For most of us, a grumbling stomach is merely a temporary annoyance. But true hunger is a devastating reality for millions of Americans.
In the United States, one in six people are food insecure, or unsure of where they will find their next meal. Each year, 80 percent of low-income families resort to buying food they know isn’t healthy, just to make ends meet, and more than 23 million Americans live in food deserts—areas where grocery stores are more than 10 miles away. Lack of access to healthy food contributes to a number of illnesses including diabetes and heart disease, and costs our healthcare system hundreds of billions of dollars.
At Thrive Market, we’re working to tackle these issues, but we need your help.
How to give back with Thrive Market
During the holidays, Thrive Market wants to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most, so we're assembling a box specifically designed for our Gives members filled with everyday essentials.
You can help us distribute these boxes by donating at checkout anytime you shop on ThriveMarket.com between Giving Tuesday and December 31. We'll distribute the boxes in January, so your generosity will directly impact our ability to support families on their journey to better health in the new year!
Want more? Help us celebrate everyday acts of kindness this season! Did you volunteer for an organization you care about? Feed a stranger's parking meter? Tell us about it on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, and include the hashtag #ThriveMarket and the URL ThriveMarketCares.org—and we'll donate $5 on your behalf.
Lets Thrive together!
Next week we'll give you a behind-the-scenes look at the Thrive Gives team to learn more about their favorite products and how they like to use them!
