These DIY Soap Jellies Are Invigorating, Fun, and So Easy to Make

May 17th, 2017

Although washing your hands might seem like a mundane task, it’s an opportunity to take a few minutes to breathe deeply and be mindful. These DIY jelly soaps might shake like Jell-O, just don’t take a bite! Instead, keep them artfully arranged on your bathroom counter, and enjoy the benefits of essential oils every time you lather up.

First, there’s peppermint, which has been used medicinally for centuries. It’s even noted as a digestive aid in the Ebers Papyrus, an ancient Egyptian medical text dating back to 1550 B.C. These days, peppermint is often used as a cleaning agent or for aromatherapy—the refreshing scent is thought to boost energy, especially combined with sweet, citrusy orange essential oil. This recipe also includes sea salt for gentle exfoliation plus soothing, hydrating jojoba oil.

Invigorating Jiggly Jelly Soaps

What You Need

2 tablespoons gelatin
1 teaspoon sea salt
¾ cup boiling water
½ cup Dr. Bronner’s Organic Rose Liquid Castile Soap
1 tablespoon jojoba oil
5 drops orange essential oil
5 drops peppermint essential oil
Natural food coloring
Silicone molds

Instructions

Combine gelatin and salt in a small bowl. Slowly pour in boiling water, stirring constantly until gelatin is fully dissolved. Stir in soap first, followed by jojoba oil, and finally the essential oils. Slowly mix in food coloring until you’re happy with the shade. Pour into silicone molds and refrigerate 2 to 4 hours.

Remove soaps from molds and store in the fridge, covered, until you’re ready to use.
