Football season has officially arrived.
And while some NFL fans are actually in it for the love of the game, let’s be real, many of us are just in it for the food—and becoming increasingly more creative in planning halftime snacks. There’s nothing quite like nachos eaten out of helmets or sub sandwiches stacked up in the shape of your favorite stadium. But if you plan on eating this way the next 17 weeks, you’re going to have a hard time making it to the Superbowl—and no one wants to miss out on the chance to see Adele nail that (we can still hope).
The good news is that there are some healthy benchwarmers waiting to fill up your game-day platter that are just as flavorful, but also much more nutritious.
To help us out, we turned to health foodie Kristin Cavallari for her six picks for game day. As the wife of Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and mom to three little fans, Cavallari knows her way around a tailgate, yet still stays on track with her health goals every Sunday by observing the 80-20 rule of eating well. It’s especially important for her family to help manage Cutler’s type 1 diabetes. “It has definitely made me more aware of what we’re putting in our bodies,” she told us recently. “We eat a lot of protein and veggies and stay away from white sugar.”
Here are Cavallari’s six favorite game-day snack foods (stock up on all of them here).
“I’m addicted to these things! I actually try not to buy them too often because they’re gone within a day. I eat them plain—they have the perfect kick—or pair with guacamole.”

“These are great for any kind of dip. I love them because they don’t have a lot of the added ingredients like other chips.”
“My kids and I love these. Not only are they perfect to put out in a pinch during a game, but I always have them when we travel, too.“
“I’m always looking for healthy snacks without many additives, and these check out. My kids go through a bag every couple of days.”
“I love everything from Epic, but these bits are my favorite. They’re a tasty, filling snack and can curb a sweet-tooth with the rich maple flavor.”
“After all the football food, these are a healthy, small treat. Because they’re primarily made of coconut, I never feel guilty when I eat a few, because the ingredients are pure.”
