Americans produce more than 200 million tons of garbage each year. Per person, that’s about 4 pounds of waste every day, or 1.5 tons every year.
The positive news? More than 75 percent of trash is recyclable, so we can reduce our carbon footprint. Start recycling your glass, metals, papers and plastics, and buy recycled or biodegradable products whenever possible.
