After a full day of cleaning and cooking up a storm, the last thing any host has time for is hand-making a centerpiece. But if you forgot to pick up flowers, try this last-minute DIY, and you’ll have a little something for the table in minutes.
Start with a clear vase or heatproof bowl. Fill it with herbs and spices, sliced oranges or lemons, small pine branches, even toasted walnuts—basically, anything fragrant and colorful you have on hand. Some of our favorite combos:
Just before your guests arrive, pour boiling water over the arrangement. A pool of floating cinnamon sticks, rose petals, and cloves looks oh-so-romantic, and the resulting cloud of scented steam will scent the whole house. It’s way more aromatic than seasonal blooms, and guaranteed to wow your guests, too.
