One of the greatest joys of a busy life has to be a long soak in a bath. A homemade detoxing bath magnifies this pleasure even more.
Detoxing baths are nothing new — in fact, detoxing baths have been used for centuries as a way of treating ailments and healing the body.
I use natural products in my bath all the time to soothe, detox, and even stop colds and flus. Here are my three favorite recipes for a soothing, detoxing bath.
The first is for achy, post-training muscles — muscles that have powered you up a hill or through a Soul Cycle class. This bath is my go-to after a long workout, and I find that it helps reduce lactic acid buildup and stimulates blood flow. The baking soda also helps draw out toxins in the skin.
2 tablespoons baking soda
2 tablespoons sea salt
The second is a bath with apple cider vinegar. This simple trick turns your bath into an amazing anti-inflammatory treat. The vinegar helps draw out toxins, promote restful sleep and clean out the pores in our skin. This bath is also great if you are getting a cold, as it helps you sweat and the steam will open up your sinuses. An apple vinegar bath can also help make you sleepy and curb insomnia.
1 cup of apple cider vinegar
The final bath is a relaxing detox bath with chamomile tea. Think of it like a giant cup of tea for your body. Chamomile tea will soothe the skin and reduce swelling. It is great for achy joints, arthritis or sore muscles. A chamomile bath will also help keep your skin and hair shiny. Chamomile has a soothing effect on our bodies, and this bath will promote sleep and reduce anxiety.
5 chamomile tea bags or 5 teaspoons heaped tea leaves
Steep the tea for 15 minutes in 1 liter of water, strain and add to your bath.
