4 Ways to Use Superfood ’Shrooms

Last Update: August 23, 2024

Mushrooms are just one of those foods: you either like them or you don’t. Whatever your feelings on funghi, it’s worth giving these wellmade by Thrive Market Organic Superfood Mushroom Powders a chance. They harness the power of four functional mushrooms that are considered medicinal for their purported nutritional and adaptogenic properties,* in a highly versatile, easy-to-use form (more on that later).

First, a word on quality. These supercharged supplement powders are made using organic, non-GMO mushrooms grown in California. Because the whole mushroom goes into each powder, you get the full spectrum of bioactive nutrients these mushroom varieties have to offer:

  • Lion’s Mane: Get your creative energy flowing (sans caffeine) with lion’s mane, which may support mental clarity, focus, and cognition.*
  • Cordyceps: Meet your new favorite pre-workout supplement. Cordyceps may boost energy and endurance.*
  • Chaga: An antioxidant powerhouse, chaga is touted for its anti-aging benefits.*
  • Reishi: Keep your body in fighting shape with this ’shroom, which may support the immune system.*

Even if you don’t normally like eating mushrooms, the mildly earthy flavor of these powders allows them to blend almost imperceptibly into smoothies and coffee drinks, savory recipes, and even desserts.

For a soothing sip: Lavender-Cacao Reishi Tonic

Yield: 1 latte
Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

For the Lavender Simple Syrup:

¼ cup Thrive Market Organic Coconut Sugar
¼ cup water
1 tablespoon dried lavender

For the Tonic:

1 ¼ cups Thrive Market Organic Almond or Oat Beverage
1 teaspoon wellmade by Thrive Market Organic Reishi Superfood Mushroom Powder
1 tablespoon Thrive Market Organic Raw Honey or Organic Maple Syrup
1 tablespoon Regeneratively Grown Organic Cacao Powder
1 teaspoon Lavender Simple Syrup
1 tablespoon cacao butter or Thrive Market Organic Coconut Butter (optional)
Pinch sea salt

Instructions

First, make the Lavender Simple Syrup: in a small saucepan, combine coconut sugar, water, and lavender. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook for about 5 minutes or until sugar has fully dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Strain syrup through a fine-mesh strainer (to remove lavender buds) into a jar. Set aside.

In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, bring the almond or oat milk to a simmer. Lower the heat to medium-low and add the reishi, honey or maple syrup, cacao powder, Lavender Simple Syrup, cacao or coconut butter (if using), and salt.

Whisk the mixture constantly until all ingredients are fully incorporated. Optionally, you can add the slightly cooled mixture to a blender and blend until frothy; use a hand blender or milk frother; or transfer to a Mason jar, seal tightly, and shake vigorously. Pour into a mug and serve.
