Sweet oat milk—or avena caliente as it’s known in Latin America—is hearty enough to enjoy for breakfast and comforting enough to help lull you to sleep. Serve warm for a rainy-day beverage everyone in the family will enjoy!
Yield: 2 servings
Active Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
1/2 cup gluten-free rolled oats
4 1/4 cups hemp or almond milk
1 cup water
2 cinnamon sticks
Pinch nutmeg
3 tablespoons honey
Combine oats, hemp milk, and water in a large saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, then simmer, uncovered, 15 minutes. Stir in cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, and honey, then simmer 15 minutes more. Let cool, covered, then place in fridge for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
Remove cinnamon sticks, pour into a high-speed blender and blend on high until creamy, adding more water if necessary. Reheat over a low flame and serve warm.
