About This Brand

It’s funny how life works out sometimes. Amy’s Kitchen never set out to become one of the world’s leading purveyors of prepared frozen organic foods, but here they are. The only thing Amy’s really wanted to do was provide busy people on the go with convenient food options that were healthier than typical TV dinners, and maybe make a decent amount of money in the process. Almost 30 years and millions of dollars in sales later, it’s safe to say that Amy’s Kitchen has succeeded far beyond their wildest expectations. How Amy’s Kitchen got started Rachel and Andy Berliner are like many people, and like most people who had just returned from a long grueling day of work, cooking was the last thing on their minds. They tried pre-cooked frozen foods but found them disappointing because of their weak cardboard flavors and unhealthy amounts of sodium, sugar, and chemical additives. Rachel and Andy thought a better way needed to exist, so they made one themselves and soon Amy’s Kitchen was...

Organic Lentil Vegetable Soup--Low Sodium

Great for lunch; low sodium a plus; somewhat mushy

- Elizabeth

Tastes Great - lower-ish sodium...

My soup of choice! I find the Organic Lentil (only) bland - FAR prefer this one. Tastes much better.

Serving size is "about 2" ("serving sizes" are so bogus) & it's Sodium content is 14% RDA. (Why we plow so much salt into everything I don't know.) Net is: I down a hefty 28% Sodium RDA in 1 sitting. Not cool, but 1/2 a can for lunch wouldn't cut it.

I would prefer MUCH lower salt RDA - I also prefer to use GOOD salt - like Himalayan (or equivalent).

If the salt was lower, this would be a 5-star rating.

Taste wise, it's awesome. Can't beat organic.

Healthy meal!

We bought 2 cans and served as a week night meal for our family of 3. It tasted good. The amount of salt was perfect. With some encouragement, our 6 year old finished his dinner.

One of the best!

I seldom use canned soups, but this is good enough not to make my own again!

Good Soup Base

It's vital that you purchase low-sodium varieties of your favorite soups rather than the full-sodium ones. Have you seen how much salt can be in a single can of soup? It's insane. This is one of my favorite low-sodium options. Made with organic ingredients including lentils, green beans, tomatoes, and spinach, it has a very natural and healthy taste to it. It doesn't have much of a spicy or flavorful taste (I'd even call it bland) which is why it's a perfect "starter" that allows me to add my own spices and flavors to really make it perfect. It's become a favorite in this household.

Great as a base for other stuff

I really dig Amy's soups, especially the lower salt offerings. People forget how much sodium is in a single cup of soup, even healthy ones, so I'm glad Amy's is committed to cutting down on salt.

I use this soup as a quick lunch meal, or if I'm really hungry, I'll add diced chicken breast or lean cuts of beef to the soup and just let it marinate and eat. I'm not a vegan, so my recipes aren't as limited, but I appreciate the healthy ingredients.

Great vegan soup

It's hard to find a tasty vegan soup, but Amy's lentil vegetable is really good. It's organic everything and it's also low in salt, which is good for me as I have high blood pressure.

It makes a heat and serve meal that's satisfying, but I also use it as a stew and pour it over vegetables for a filling meal at dinner.

Great soup

I usually can't stand canned soups - Amy's is the only kind I'll eat. The lentil soup is a really quick and easy way for me to get my legumes in, and therefore iron. It also has a good amount of Vitamin A. It makes for a super-quick, healthy meal at the end of a long day.
