Very very tasty
I put it with a little sauerkraut and squash and found it extremely tasty. Definitely ordering again
Serve on organic blue corn tortilla chips
OMG this herring is so delicious served on an organic blue corn tortilla chip with a couple of leaves of warm sautéed organic kale (olive oil and garlic) and fresh grated Parmesan cheese on top.
Convenient for hiking & taking to work. Lots of the protein I need. Tasty!
Perfect for adding to a salad for summer dinner. Good flavor and herring satisfaction.
Delicious, Fast, and Easy
These are my favorites. I eat a tin every day. The pepper is a great addition. I also enjoy the Bay Harbor sardines, but the herring is a step above. I generally just eat them straight out of the tin, sometimes with my hands alone.
When paired with rice and roasted/salted seaweed this makes for a quick and filling meal, 2 fillets per can. No seasoning necessary since the fish has the pepper and the nori has the salt. Light taste, I open the can and drain the oil out of preference.
More like a 3.5 star for these. Fairly tasty. The black pepper was a nice addition, but overall these were too wet for my likes. What's with all the water in these cans? Anyhow, this is a great price for a good portion of quality fish. Recommended.
Excellent Wild Herring!
Bar Harbor got it right! These All Natural Wild Herring with Cracked Pepper are really delicious. They are healthy, sustainably harvested and Thrive Market has them at a great low price.
Packed with omega-3 and protein, this product also has a naturally wood smoked flavor. I use these herring on crackers, in salads with eggs or lettuce and in a special recipe from my grandma who lived in Maine for many years. Thank you Bar Harbor and Thrive, you make a great team!

I have to avoid a lot of different food due to allergies and other health issues. No gluten, sugar, corn and many different chemicals. That makes it difficult for me t find foods I can eat.
This is one I can, and Bar Harbor does a great job at packaging herring that taste fresh. I eat it out of the can, with crackers or on a bed of lettuce.

Crisp black pepper
I love natural and cracked pepper, and the cracked pepper flavor herring is a wonderful mix of that crisp flavor with fresh herring. The cans are large enough for two people to share.
My only complaint is that they are sometimes a little mushy, from being packed in water.
Bar Harbor makes great products and I definitely recommend this one.

Dry & Delicious
These are definitely delicious, but they have a really unique and dry taste compared to a lot of seafood that I eat. Make sure to open these carefully to avoid the inner liquid spilling from the can as the liquid is really packed right to the top. It has an interesting pepper taste that adds more flavor to these dry fish. As long as you're okay with most types of seafood, this is another one that you can add to your diet with no problem.

First time I tried them...
I generally eat tuna, but I have been trying to get more variety in my diet.
These kippers are pretty good. They make a healthy, quick lunch and they fit in with the Paleo lifestyle I am trying to adopt. I do like them right out of the can sometimes.
I like that they are high in protein.

Not the only fish in the sea
I like fish, but I never went far beyond tuna and salmon. Now I've tried both natural and cracked pepper, and found that I prefer the cracked pepper flavor herring.
I usually split the can up for lunch and then a snack later. It is packed with lots of energy and heart healthy Omega 3's! This is a great product, and Bar Harbor is a great company.

Nice canned fish
I'm not a huge canned fish person, but I wanted to start eating more healthy food, and I know this is supposed to be good for you. I liked Bar Harbor's tuna, so this was a natural.
The herring has a nice moist taste, and the pepper really puts it over the top. I'm surprised I don't really do much more than just eat is straight out of the can. It's that good.
Water water everywhere
I'll tell you, there's not supposed to be any added water in these cans, but there's lots of liquid. You have to open the can carefully so it doesn't get all over the place.
The liquid's not water, it's the fish juice, and it's pretty good, but it's messy. The herring isn't bad, not as good as fresh, but close enough I guess.

Better than the salmon
Bar Harbor also makes a salmon I really like, so writing that the herring is even better is something. But this is exceptional canned fish, fresh and smokey and perfect out of the can or on crackers.
It's a simple recipe, fish, salt and cracked pepper. Proves you don't need a lot of spices to bring out the natural flavor of what's in the ocean. Lesson for those who drown their fish in sauce and mayo.

Fantastic tasting fish
Canned fish is a mixed bag. Sometimes, you get really fresh tasting fish, and other times, it smells and tastes like the fish was caught years before. Bar Harbor is different.
All their stuff is natural and they have a real commitment to the environment. The herring is really good and tastes like it was just caught. I can eat it out of the can or spread it with mustard on wheat bread.
