We were big fans of Angie’s BOOMCHICKAPOP popcorn before we ever learned the story behind the brand. The crunchy snack originated as farmers market kettle corn and is downright addictive and low in calories (i.e. it has all the makings of an ideal midday munch). But when we learned that the company—which grew from a simple mom-and-pop concept into a major player in the snack aisle—gives back to local nonprofit organizations in an effort to reinvigorate the community, we became true devotees. Here’s a closer look at this booming brand that’s dedicated to a whole lot more than just popcorn.

The History of Angie’s

In 2001, company founders Angie and Dan Bastian were living in Mankato, Minnesota and working as a nurse and Spanish teacher, respectively. It wasn’t until they began making kettle corn for their kids that they discovered they had also created a flavorful snack with real ingredients they could feel good about. Soon the couple was selling bags of popcorn at the local farmers market, and as demand grew, so did a new company: Angie’s BOOMCHICKAPOP.

Angie’s Company Mission

Though it may make a darn good snack, there’s more to this company than craveworthy corn. As its name suggests, Angie’s BOOMCHICKAPOP is all about delivering a “BOOM” of positive energy. To that end, Angie’s donates to multiple organizations in an effort to support the healthy futures of women and children everywhere and encourage them to live out loud and unleash their potential every day.
