Castor & Pollux
When you want to treat your pet like a member of the family but can’t find food without fillers, chemicals, or other questionable ingredients, it’s time to comb the Thrive Market shelves for inspiration. So many of our members are pet parents that we couldn’t exclude this essential category, and are always excited to introduce you to new brands that create the best food, treats, toys, and grooming products for your furry friends. One brand we’re loving is Castor & Pollux. Eighteen years ago, new pet parents Shelley Gunton and Brian Connolly rescued a puppy named Joey from the local humane society. When they went searching for the best food to feed their new family member, the couple was disappointed yet determined to do something different. Using natural and organic ingredients, they started making their own dog food, then assembled a passionate team of nutritionists and veterinarians to help develop healthy options for four-legged friends.
The History of Castor & Pollux
After searching for high-quality food for their new rescue dog, a husband and wife team decided to do things their own way—and create an entire pet line in the process. Castor & Pollux entered the realm of premium pet food in 2003 with its first line of Certified Organic food and treats. Since then, it’s taken steps to up the quality bar even more and seek additional certifications.
Castor & Pollux Company Mission
Castor & Pollux is committed to setting a new standard in the pet industry—one that prioritizes quality ingredients, organic farming, and unique flavor combinations to keep your furry family members begging for more. The brand calls it “purposeful pet food.” Twenty-four recipes make it easy to introduce some variety into your dog or cat’s diet, too.
Benefits of Castor & Pollux
Castor & Pollux has always sought out the best ingredients, but took its sourcing a step further in 2017 when all of its products became USDA Certified Organic. One of its lines—PRISTINE—is made entirely with responsibly sourced ingredients like wild-caught salmon, cage-free chicken, and vegetables grown without chemical pesticides. And if you’re on the fence about giving Fido organic food, some of the potential benefits are reducing allergies and optimizing digestion. Castor & Pollux also works with pets in need through its giving program that supports non-profit pet rescue organizations around the country.
