The History of Daring

Scottish entrepreneur Ross Mackay is a former meat-eating athlete turned plant-based advocate. While playing tennis and subsisting on a strict diet of high-protein and low-calorie foods, he tried going vegan on a dare from a fellow athlete. The experiment was supposed to last a week, but Mackay enjoyed the physical and athletic benefits and decided to keep up with it. Ultimately, this experience inspired him to create Daring and keep it simple: Their base recipe is made using only 6 ingredients.

Daring Company Mission

Daring was founded by a team of chicken lovers who believe that eating more plants and treating animals with care are essential practices. No matter your diet or lifestyle, this brand is on a mission to rethink and replace animal chicken in the food system. In a 2022 interview, Mackay shared his desire to create a plant-based chicken for everyone to enjoy that’s a true substitute for animal chicken. “To date we’ve sold 1.7M lbs of plant chicken which is the equivalent of removing 579K cars off the road, saving 1.3K football fields of land, and saving 4.4M showers worth of water. I will never lose sight of our mission and look forward to increasing our positive impact on the environment.”
