Organic Valley Farms

Organic Valley Farms (1)

Started as a Midwest farmer-owned cooperative in 1998, Organic Valley Farms continues to produce some of the highest quality organic dairy, vegetables, soy and eggs.

Organic Valley Farms was founded with the belief that there had to be a better and more sustainable future for farming beyond industrialized agriculture. The farmer-owned cooperative had a mission to protect the health of the land, economy, animals, and people around the world.

The History of Organic Valley Farms

In January 1988, family farms were staring down a bankrupt agricultural system. Industrial farming was taking over, but a handful of farmers in Southwestern Wisconsin’s Coulee region banded together to change the way people think about food. The standards they set for themselves eventually served as the framework for the USDA’s organic guidelines.

The Coulee Region Organic Produce Pool (CROPP) started out selling organic vegetables, and within a year, it began offering organic dairy. Local communities became infatuated with the premium, organic choices that were offered to them. Since then, Organic Valley Farms quickly emerged as the nation's leading producer of organic dairy.

Organic Valley Company Mission

Organic Valley believes in keeping things honest and simple. Its dairy is produced with no added hormones, antibiotics, or toxic pesticides. The company works to bring the best organic products to market while also maximizing sustainability. Organic Valley’s dairy products provide more nutrients due to the rich soil of its farms, and its cows lead healthier, longer lives because of their grass-fed diets.

Benefits of Organic Valley

Organic Valley is doing its best to provide dairy products everyone can feel good about. Its organic pastures are great for animals, your family, and the environment. The average herd size of the family farmers used by Organic Valley is 75 cows, as opposed to the thousands seen in factory farms. The latest research shows that 100% grass-fed cows produce milk that is 147 percent higher in omega 3 - and these beneficial fats promote brain health.
