Red Boat Fish Sauce
Nước mắm nhi - the fragrant, first-press fish sauce from Vietnam was lacking in the American market. With the combined effort of expert fishermen from the tropical island of Phú Quốc and a centuries-old fermentation tradition - Red Boat Fish Sauce was brought to life.
The History of Red Boat Fish Sauce
Founder Cuong Pham missed the tastes and smells of his childhood in Saigon after his move to the United States.
In 2008, even after scouring San Francisco’s lively Asian markets, Pham still felt unsatisfied - so he decided to find his own solution. His goal was to recreate the vivid taste of authentic fish sauce from his youth so he traveled back to Phú Quốc to investigate the flavors of the region. After learning from the locals and experimenting with his recipe until it was just right, Red Boat Fish Sauce was born.
Red Boat Fish Sauce Company Mission
Red Boat Fish sauce has a mission to stay true to its roots, and support the movement that calls for transparency, traceability and sustainability from brands.
Red Boat claims the purest fish sauce on earth, and attributes that fact to its commitment to quality ingredients, as well as its time-honored fermentation tradition. The entire production process is free of additives, preservatives, and flavor enhancers.
Red Boat Fish Sauce Benefits
Red Boat Fish Sauce backs that is the purest fish sauce on earth due to its in-house process.
First, the company uses only black anchovies caught in the crystal clear waters of Vietnam’s Phú Quốc archipelago. Second, Red Boat immediately salts the fish to preserve freshness.
Next, for fermentation, anchovies are brought back to the barrelhouse and stored for 12 months in large wooden barrels. This provides a clean, natural umami flavor. Lastly, after fermentation is complete, the first extraction from the barrel is bottled.
You can tell the fish sauce is from the first-press due to the dark amber color, which guarantees that it has not been diluted.
