Singing Pastures (6)

Singing Pastures is a farm in coastal Maine dedicated to regenerative agriculture, raising heritage breed pigs with a focus on sustainability and environmental health, and producing high-quality, pasture-raised pork products.

Prior to World War II, most farms in the United States were chemical free. But in an effort to boost farm productivity, caring for the land in traditional ways became an afterthought, which led to the proliferation of factory farms. Pork production in particular shifted from small farms to large factory farms, and the 2017 USDA Census of Agriculture reports that roughly 98 percent of U.S. farmed animals now live on factory farms. Regenerative agriculture isn’t new, but it’s enjoyed a resurgence in recent years as many farms work to rebuild soil, cultivate biodiversity, and improve food quality. Practices such as reducing (or eliminating) tilling, supporting the soil’s microbiome, creating pollinator habitats, and allowing animals to graze freely all help contribute to a better farm future for all.

The History of Singing Pastures

Singing Pastures Farm raises heritage breed pigs in the grassy fields of coastal Maine. Ninth-generation farmers (and co-owners) Holly and John Arbuckle help oversee the farm’s pork production, and are committed to the regenerative practices that keep the farm thriving year after year. The name comes straight from nature—the constant song and cacophony of activity from animals that call the farm home. From birds and frogs to insects and fish, they all play a role in keeping the land healthy and balanced.

Singing Pastures Company Mission

Singing Pastures supports a wildly regenerative philosophy and believes regenerative agriculture improves soil and revitalizes ecosystems. With soil as the foundation of clean water, abundant wildlife, and a greener planet, this eco-friendly brand advocates for creating healthy food in partnership with the planet.
