The History of Sophie’s Kitchen
The idea for Sophie’s Kitchen was born when founder Eugene Wang’s daughter Sophie had a severe reaction to shrimp the first time that she tried it. While Sophie, fortunately, made a full recovery, the incident inspired Eugene to work on creating a great tasting vegan alternative to seafood. Sophie’s kitchen was founded in 2010, and by the following year was in distribution. It has been putting out great products ever since.
To create his successful business, Eugene utilized both his own background as an entrepreneur in the vegetarian/vegan food sector as well as that of his father, who managed a vegetarian food manufacturing plant in Taiwan. For Eugene, Sophie’s Kitchen is the continuation of a great family legacy that stretches back decades.
“We are four generations of Buddhists and vegetarians, starting with my grandma and grandpa. They were making vegetarian food as street vendors in Taiwan,” said Eugene, speaking to the New Hope Network.
